  • Dike Update?

Pardon me if this was talked about recently, but I haven't heard or seen anything about it.

Anyone heard any news about the progress (or lack thereof) of the Texas City Dike? I was hoping it would be open by the summer, but that's probably some very wishful thinking.

      Lifted from another site.

Information Published in the Texas City-La Marque Chamber Express :

      Texas City Dike
Three months after the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced it had awarded $4.6 million to the city and county to repair the hurricane damaged Texas City Dike the money still has not arrived. That delay has put the project behind the original plan to begin repairs by March.

The Texas City Dike has been shut down ever since Hurrican Ike. After haggles about estimated repair costs and debates if engineering costs were part of the funding, FEMA now says the city needs to apply for "expedited funding" to get the money.

The funding is not paid all at once...in large projects but in increments as the work is done.

So without requesting expedited funding, the city must pay for the work upfront. But the city is prohibited by law from taking bids on the project without the money in hand.

Maybe Mayor Doyle should get BP to back it.
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. BEAUTIFY AMERICA, RUN OVER A LIBERAL, THEN BACK UP AND SEE IF HE'S DEAD.

dang. thats not exactly good news. I just want the ramp to open again! From there you can fish east bay, lower galveston, jetties, offshore, etc. Its too convenient. And the yacht basin ramp fee is ridiculous, though I guess you cant blame them since they lost all that money from the fire. but still!
