  • Has ANYONE BEEN CATCHIN ANYTHING?

    Hey Crew
I recently made a couple of short outings just drifting breaking in the new boat. I usually do pretty good and keep the pulse of what to throw and what they are bitting on. But I have to tell ya... I aint caught Crap in my last two trips worth a darn. I have pretty much told anyone that is set up for a trip to just hang tight until I can get into the feeding pattern again, but all the work and remodling on the house has kept me off the bay. Dont pick on me too bad but I even picked up a quart of shrimp under a pop cork this past Monday playing some hookie from work. I caught about 6-8 trout only one above 16" and a rat red. Threw everything in the box on sat and sun and only two medium sized takers and nada else. I have been hanging mostly around northshore, the reefs at deer and confed, and ran into a few of our southern coves with nothing to really show but burned up fuel. Made a few drifts in mid bay and shell but still nothing to brag about. WEIRD.... Let me know if you guys have been on target and a general area. I never ask for your locations just general, flats at pass, alligator, chocolate, east bay, trinity, whatever..... etc... we all know the spots.

I heard a few good reports from Surfside.

We are in a transition period again, so fish are on the move.

I'm already hearing crappie spawn reports from lakes up North. If that's happening then we are certainly into the Spring fishing mode.

I always refer to the articles written by Steve Soule' or Greg Francis for pointers and tactics during these times.

We are West End Anglers, a saltwater tribe!

Greg is pretty good. He does stay consistently on the fish that is for sure. The articles are great and informative. As most of us are very experienced anglers we sometimes get to comfortable in certain areas and don't adventure enough. This is one of my shortcomings. Call it what you will, me I call it plain lazy. I have based my recent failures or lack of fish on not stretching my legs on the bay. To answer my own question, whats the point of having a great boat if your not gonna get adventurous. I will be searching out new waters for the rest of the season and will try and stay away from the large groups so that my charters and friends can experience the bay and fishing without the traffic jams. As always, when I find so will you... I am one of the few anglers that give up spots... Not the ULTRA PREMIUMS but Good ones. Lines tight to all.

Man, sadly I haven't even been fishing in a couple of months. I've made it down to our bayhouse for some short trips only a few times in the last couple of months just to take care of things like broken pipes and running the boat. That will change here soon as we start to go down more frequently and hopefully the fishing will pick up. I will be down this upcoming weekend and will see if there are any fish to be caught.

Me and a buddy did OK on Sunday. We did slay them but he put a 20" and 26" speck in the boat and I lost a nice red at the boat. Had some smaller takers as well. All on topwater in Chocolate. Had one blowup that seemed pretty big but never got a good hookset.

Coe , so some good reports from Freeport means trout have shown up in the surf already ?

Caught a few lower slot reds this weekend at night/early morning in the canal. The reds are starting to work the lights again apparently. Windy as hell otherwise this weekend, so only drifted a couple of locations in my boat without any bites (but didn't try too hard).

I fished Green's Lake last saturday (still don't know wtf I'm doing on West Bay!) and caught a 3 reds and 2 trout that were all undersized, but I caught 'em all on nuclear chicken shad and plum/chartreuse minnows.

ID:	562877I've been "Junk fishing", bouncing in between fresh/salt-Been catching some Bass, Crappie, and even a couple of Grinnel. A few Reds, a few Trout and some Flounder up the Bayou. Heading to Conroe on Thursday for a 4 day trip to take my Pops Crappie fishing. We're hoping to fill the freezer up.

BLAST THAT EAST WIND..... I ran home real quick about 10:30 on Sunday to pick up my dog... I like to fish with him... By the time I grabbed him and headed back out 20min. or so. the wind just cranked up. We always start complaining this time of year like its something new about the transition. Thinking about spending the rest of the month in east matty.
