My Dad enlisted at 29 after Pearl for the duration. One of his caps has all the names of islands like Taipei, Saipan, Guadalcanal, Pelelil, Iwo Gima, Marshal & Solomon Islands. He was a chief in charge of radar (new technology) on a liberty ship carrying troops. Those tubs had a couple of guns but were really sitting ducks. His three brothers were also in the Navy in the Pacific.
