  • SLP- getting No fishing/wading signs posted

Heard they are down there putting up more signs right now...No wade fishing etc....? and will be issuing tickets if caught.

any intel on this? Galveston side, Freeport side...distance away from bridge now not allowed?

bit of a bummer, but WILL/SHOULD save lives....plenty of other spots to wet a line. Just hope folks heed warnings.
if i dnt catch dinner, i will catch a buzz. it works out!

There have been warning signs there since well before I came along. Few seem to heed them. Now I guess they've had enough and are going to make wading there illegal.

Just what we all need. Another spot you can't walk in and wade. They will police it enough to generate cash, but they won't place Beach Patrol down there to assist when needed. Makes perfect sense.

Maybe this will help save a few lives. It's to dangerous to be wade fishing near the bridge.

It needs to be posted in several languages and with big graphics for those that can't read. I fear a lawsuit started this procedure. Sad.

Unless its patrolled constantly the signs are gonna be a waste. Signs now haven't done any good.

Maybe on the lawsuit. Doubt it would be successful, though. Family filed suit over folks that died at the TCD a couple of years ago. Supreme Court of Texas said no dice.

People been drowning at the pass since the bridge was built in 1970. I've never waded there and never wanted to, after I realized how treacherous the Tides and currents are, and after reading about someone drowning almost every year. Here's what I got off the net about the currents and tides. There's no way to plan for water conditions like those at SLP. Just my two cents.
"Tide levels can vary by almost 2 feet in height, although the tidal effects seem more pronounced along straits than other barrier island zones. Water current dangers are prominent up to about one mile away from the pass along either island. A high amount of drownings occur in the vicinity of the San Luis Pass compared to other areas off of nearby beaches.[1] Until June 2013, about 10 people drowned near San Luis pass on the Galveston side since 2001, and of those about 6 drowned there since 2007. The depth of the pass varies to up to 40 feet deep."
"Tides cause daily variations in topography, and occasionally, storms more drastically change the topography of the pass."

I've observed people ( I think illegals ) in the water under the bridge with printed " no swimming " and no swimming graphics signs precent . Police patrol stopped and got them out. As soon as he was gone , they all got back into the water .

Sad to hear about this every year. My two cents (don't need more control), just more common sense. Next thing will be no one can wade from BI to SLP.

I can already hear the complaints that this sign isn't in Espanol, too.
