So I changed out the 9 volt batteries in all my smoke detectors today. When I took the old batteries out, I dropped them in my pocket. My pocket was also full of change I had picked up all over the place as I cleaned my casa. I was up on my step stool when I felt a strange sensation on my leg and realized it was HEAT. 3 nine volt batteries and about 4 bucks in change made an arc welder in my pocket. Burned my fingers when I reached in and flipped everything out. Now just imagine the "fat man fire in his pocket" dance that was going on in my hallway. I assure all of you that had you been here to witness this, you'd have been on the floor in apoplectic laughter.
I immediately inspected my leg and sure enough, I've got a bit of a burn there. I waited a few minutes to pick up the batteries and change, all of which were still very warm to the touch.
I remember my big brother tricking my into putting on of these batteries to my tongue when I was about 7 years old. This experience was equally as educational. So, don't put batteries and change in the same pocket.
