  • Idiots in airboats tearing up the marsh near SLP

Today I witnessed an airboat completely tearing up the marsh on Mud and Moody's Islands. They were purposely running over the grass and even cut completely across Moody's Island just running around tearing the marsh up. They seemed to have no care about what they're doing to the marsh.

Tonight we witnessed a green flare at Mud Cut. Thinking someone may be in distress, we called the authorities. While I'm on the phone with them, I can hear that the boat that shot the flare is an airboat and they're running all over the place from Mud Cut to Bird Island, then into SLP and down into Titlum-Tatlum. They then cut completely across Moody's Island to Cold Pass and Churchill Bayou to John Wayne's Cut. We figured they must be drunk or crazy, ignorant, or just plain stupid.

I'm thinking it's not cool at all to be shooting flares for no reason, no matter the color. We thought someone was in trouble and started gearing up for a rescue run thinking we could get there faster than anyone. I don't mind being inconvenienced from time to time, but out on the water is no place for this foolishness. We did not get a close enough look at either boat to get TX numbers.

It looked like these were 2 different boats. I know they're loud and annoying, but I believe airboats have as much right as outboards to be on the water, but purposely tearing up the marsh should be illegal if it isn't already. Just because your boat can go over it doesn't mean you should do it if you don't have to.

So, is it illegal to do this here in Texas? What about shooting a flare for no reason?

I'm used to inconsiderate people on the water. I usually chalk it up to ignorance and move on. But to me this is beyond inconsideration. What say y'all?

Get over it! Texas doesn't belong to you to be so petty about something like this.

Yeah Sandy, don't you know people have the right to destroy GLO property and send up false distress signals, to operate fricking annoying arse air boats in the middle of the night while drunk and to be incredible raging douche bags in general whenever they want??!! It's perfectly fine.. Gosh..
        Shut up and FISH!!

The exact reason I'm having a hard time trying to decide wether to fish this weekend or not. Holiday weekends always bring out the best kind of folks.

I agree that the destruction of the Marsh should be Illegal. This area of the bay complex
is precious and should be protected. If you ever fished this region, I think you would agree.
Unfortunately it is not part of the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge.
It should be in my opinion. Here is a Map of the Refuge.
Mud Island and Moodys are in the County boundaries.

Wow I did t expect that either , I guess we don't need a healthy marsh for a healthy fishery.

The old saying "don't ever second guess yourself" well that saying doesn't apply to you. Roll you up one really tight, burn it really slow and don't pass it. This is the most retarded post you have made to date. Please next time second guess yourself before you hit the Post Quick Reply button..

I never thought that I would see that on this site...

Even if I am being "petty" about tearing up the marsh, what about the flare?

Sandy...I took a beer cruise thru the pass/bird island and up by your place yesterday. I asked the people there for directions to Corpus Christi and got an initial strange look. They said you and mike went off to get something. I also saw an air Bote moored up a few houses from you. Was that it?

And shooting a flare off for fun is plain Ol dumb asss and probably would end up with a citation if a CG responded to it. Idiotic.

Brazoria Co. Sheriff was going to send a boat, but I called them off when it was obvious the jack butts were just doing stupid things. They were worried, as we were that they were in distress.

Sorry I missed you JT. That makes me sick. I'd have loved for you to see the place and do some front porch sitting. Worms ate some of our pilings and we had to run to get some new ones.

The airboat's actions were irresponsible . I've been in a marsh canal by the Diversionary Canal kayak fishing and have a jet skiing teen blast past . An airboat could kill someone doing what Sandy related .
