  • Replacement Hooks for Top Waters

I have quite a few top water lures (Super Spooks, Top Dogs, etc) that have not been properly cared for in the past and I now need to replace rusty hooks. Can anyone recommend a good brand/size hook I should buy?

    Thanks!

There are a few different ones. I use the VMC 9650 in sizes 4 or 2 depending on the bait. Spook Jrs get #4, Super Spooks get 4s if you keep all three on and 2s if you take the middle off. Top dogs, She dogs, Skitter Walks get #2s .

Anybody replace with single hooks? I can't stand the damage trebles do. What's the best one for this. I have topwaters, but rarely use them. Ran across an old article about switching to single hooks, but the choices out there are daunting.

http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Owner...cpage-XRH.html Owner makes some singles that don't need a extra split ring.

For replacement trebles on my tops I use these: http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Owner...age-OST4X.html Sure, they'll rust eventually, and cost a lot but they are sharp as hell! Not as heavily weighted as they look and I've never had a fish bend them.

I have been using the Gamakatsu Live Bait Hook with Ring in size 1/0 on my Spook Jrs and have not had a problem.

I use the VMC #2. Works for me. They don't rust as quickly. Lord Bless.

Great thread. This will be a money saver for sure.
A little labor of love on the top water box next time down.

                      Thanks,
