Well guys we did pretty good for a second weekend. We were on the water at 6:30 and we only had two specs in the boat by 8:30. Eventually we were able to find more fish. The tide didn't start coming in until 8:30 and I figure that was the reason the bite was very slow at first. Just like last weekend most of our fish didn't come from working bait that was being tossed around it came from areas within 50-100 yards of the bait. I feel like most of the specs were held on ledges waiting for the bait to come to it. All of our hits came from working ledges except maybe two or three fish. We really had to grind it out but the fish were there. We had about 10 more we lost while fighting them. That really sucks but it happens. One of the fish we lost seemed like a massive trout which was very disappointing but there is always next time. I've primarily been a bait fisherman(shrimp, mullet, croaker) tossing the occasional jig or plug but have made the switch to fishing only lures this year. Is there something yall do to ensure you have better hooksets with lures? I don't like losing the big ones even though I would have released it I still wanted to see it.

good job, You're correct about the bite coming on an in-coming tide. If you were losing fish on topwaters, that seems to happens, make sure you have good hooks. With soft plastics I seem to get a better hook set using braid.

Didn't get any on top waters yesterday. I only use braid with 18" mono leader. I replace my hooks pretty regularly on my top water and subsurface plugs. All my jigs have good hooks as well.

Thanks for the reply. I'm really not sure what the issue is. Could it be my drag settings or possibly my hook sets. I don't wanna lose anymore fish.

Looks like you're doing it right. Might sharpen all hooks before a trip, especially the ones out of the box. I have found that it does make a difference.

OK I'll try that next time. I try not to set it too high but I'll adjust it down even more and see if it helps

I seem to keep me hooked better on a jig head with soft plastic. Top water is fun but gotta keep them from jumping and spitting hook out
