  • Christmas BAY Route In Route Out

Im hoping for a little educating here. I have been wanting to run back into Christmas Bay for a while now. With winter coming on and those fat females coming in I would like to do some targeting back there. Unfortunately I haven't ran in there in many years and it has changed a bit. I tried to get in there a few months back but kept running aground. Wasn't to successful that day. So I ask the brew crew at FWE to educate me a bit..... I live in Bayou Vista so running up the ICW to the back of Bastrop isn't an issue or too long of a ride. Ive marked up a map on google earth. Can you guys tell me if im on the right track here? Whats the hazards I should look out for or do I even have the correct path. Any help would be appreciated.Click image for larger version

You have to watch out going from ICW into Bastrop and Bastrop to Xmas is VERY tricky.

You will be better off running the ICW all the way to Bastrop. There is a channel in Bastrop that runs from the ICW to Christmas, but it's shallow near the ICW, and even more shallow during the winter. Besides, I don't know why you want to run all that way in the winter when theres fat girls in your area.

Really Mark. You're sitting in the middle of prime fishing. Why go elsewhere?

I'd agree... Better fish in west. Christmas is spotty... maybe some in february, but not a lot of spots to hit and you gotta know where they are. Lots more ground in West.

But, yes, if you go the the fartherst west channel entrance into Bastrop off the ICW, that is deeper. Run that to the Bastrop channel. Go in full daylight and make yourself a route or make one off a google earth I think you can see the channels in 2006 or 2009. There are shallow reefs both side of the channels in Bastrop.. could be a real buzz kill if you know what I mean. The entrance from bastrop to Christmas isn't near as bad as colds pass.

I agree with these guys. You can cover more water in West, plus there is nothing in Christmas that's worth running that far for.It can be good over there, but it's pretty much dead over there in the winter.Water gets low and the fish will move out of there. It's tough to get fish to hold there when it's cold.

Yes sir if you don't know your way around Bastrop bay or cold pass you will be a victim of the game. Even running in Xmas is a challenge for someone that doesn't know the bay. Lol every day the sand bars in San Luis pass and cold pass and the reefs in Bastrop bay reek havoc on new meat.
