  • Kids tournament questions

I talked my 13 yr old into entering the kids tournament and now I have to follow thru. Never fished a tournament before and I don't want to look like I am clueless to the kid cause, well u know 'I got a rep to keep' .

Is a public launch at/ near the restaurant? If not can u suggest one?

Should we catch anything worth weighing in, how do I transport it other than in the boat live well?

Any other suggestions? Things I need to know to make this a memory for him?

You can fish anywhere you want. Whatever you catch can go in the ice chest. Doesnt have to be live to weigh in. Just make sure you're in the line for weigh in on time. There isn't a public ramp at the marina. Normally I just launch where I'm used to fishing and just throw the ice chest in the truck and drive to the weigh in. Make sure you guys come to the weigh in even if you don't catch fish to get your captains bag and raffle prizes!
    Shut up and FISH!!

There is a public ramp accessed in the parking lot of the marina.

Atexan just an FYI. I haven't tried to put in at that ramp in several years and maybe it's been dredged out since then, but the last time I tried there was so much sand on the ramp I had to put my truck just about under water to get the boat back on the trailer during low tide, and another time I could get it deep enough to float it off so I quit using the SI ramp. My boat is a heavy 19ft deep V, so a flat bottom or light boat might be better, but if it's a 20+ footer I would check it out once before the tourney.

Always ...always go to the weigh in even if you don't catch anything. It's the camaraderie and meeting new people that's worth it alone. Plus there is usually some talk of spots.. of where 'they' caught them. It might not be that spot...but it's usually another pretty good spot. LOL.

To close out this thread we hit the sea isle public ramp today and it is a shallow ramp. The truck got wet. Not an issue launching my 17' skiff but I can see a deep V being a struggle. I will not complain as the launch was FREE. Even met another father/son party with the exact same boat as mine. We swapped stories and they shared their favorite spot. Bought some bait at the shop and headed out into the bay. Not sure if that ramp will be a regular as it adds another 30 minutes to my 1.5 hour drive already.

See u guys at the tourney.

I have another question about the tournament. Fishing starts at 7:15 AM, but is there a launch time?

Launch whenever you want just not supposed to start fishing until sunrise.
