  • The kid is ready for a jon boat

The kid is ready, but I'm not ready to buy a new one. Not willing to spend $600.

If anyone has a 12ft jon boat for sale, with title, please send me a note. I already have a motor for it, just looking for the cheapest one I can get.

After reading about the trouble getting titles, I'm looking for one that comes with one.

The motor is a 4hp mariner that a neighbor put on his lawn with a sign that said free. Son picked it up. We had to clean carbs and replace impeller, but it's running.

    Thanks

All motorized boats regardless of length... sailboats don't have to be registered if they are less than 14' in length when wind blown...

Yep, I've been down that road. Never, ever, ever buy a boat without a title in Texas. You'll have to haul it to Louisiana to sell it, and even that is getting so complicated it's better to just scrap it or sell it at a deep discount to someone who wants to put it on a private pond.

Keep lookin' Torque, and you'll find a good deal.

I've bought plenty of boats w/o title here in TX I always file for an abandon title or you forge the previous owners signature or say it was a homemade boat etc. a lot of loop holes still.

There are tons of cheap Jon boats for sale on craigslist. It's cool that you are getting your son one. Better be careful though, my parents got me my first one when I was around 11 or 12. Since therm I have personally bought and owned 5 boats, and I'm only 20 right now. Hahaha

I got a 14' when I was 12 I had to take the Boaters Education thing at home and send in my answers I dunno long time ago.

You can find a bunch of deals my last jon boat I bought had a good trailer (galvenized) 15' jon and a 30HP remote steer johnson ran like a top! (before we sunk it) but we only paid $1,500 for it. We walked away with a steal! Great boat for 8 months before the North winds and West Bay sent her to Davy Jones locker... We salvaged the boat but the motor was buried under 3' of sand

Hah! Coe, I can't do stuff like that with a name like Law. I gotta do everything by the book. Can't file for a lost title without the name of the title holder and his "signature". That's not always easy info to get.

I was 7 when I started running my own boat. I was under close supervision of course. By the time I was 11, I had my own flotilla of found and fixed boats. I'd find at least one every other year or so. By the time my camp blew away I had 6 of them there, and I had even sold a couple. Can't do that sort of thing in Texas. Back then you didn't need numbers or registration on a boat unless it was trailered or had permanent power. Here there are laws for everything.

I have done everything by the book Sandy I'm just stating the obvious that there are ways around a lot of the headache like if you were given the boat by the owner, found it sitting on the side of road etc.

You apply for one and TPWD does the work for you and they send you registration documents if your good to go.
