  • Stakeout Stik Vs. Anchor Question

I was just looking at BS Little's web site. I noticed that at the bottom there is a disclaimer sort of. It says "Please note that StakeOut Stiks are NOT an USCG approved anchor".
I think I know, but does that mean I have to carry an anchor as well as the Stik?

Kenny, I don't think an anchor is a requirement but then again I may be wrong. I'll ask when I go to the boat show today.

I'd always carry one just in case. Course, all that lead in your *** should be good enough!

I think I found the answer and it stated, an anchor is recommended but not required.

Coming back to Hopedale LA. years ago from Breton Island, we came across some guys that were broke down and offered to pull them in-they had someone coming but they didn't have an anchor-we carry two, so we lent them one so they would be able to sit while waiting for their buds. If offshore, I carry two just in case.

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. Bring both, I ran over my SOS once and would have had to go home if I did not have the rusty anchor!

And BTW, the SOS is sometimes hard to get into hard sand.

If your motor fails and you are drifting towards the rocks in deep water, which would be better, an anchor that you can deploy in an emergency situation or a stick?

The stake out stick is great but it only replaces an anchor in shallow water.
Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a rain dance.

I use Brian's SOS. One of the best upgrades on our boat.

I do have an anchor as a back up. I fish some deep areas from time to time that require its use.

Yep, don't throw away your anchor. You'll still need it for deep water. I love my stakeout stik, and so does everyone else. Darn near half the folks on this board have used it.

I would probably set both out if I was leaving the boat for a wade.

Thanks for the responses. I know the water I fish and I don't need an anchor in West Bay. If I travel I take the anchor.....
