We have huge loads to be hauled off, but they are on the island. We've got to haul the debris to the launch first. Tiger was all ready to come down today with a flatbed, but we were running about 2 hours late due to somebody not waking me up as he said he would and the same somebody having too many bloody marys. I appreciate Tiger for being so ready to help, and hopefully he can come help when we are more ready for him.

        Here's this weekend's report:

I headed up to Pasadena to pick up 007 and Primer on Saturday morning. Barney Fife had other ideas in Pearland, pulling me over for switching lanes without signaling and doing 68 in a 65. I simply told the officer that I deserved the ticket and understood that I had to be more careful. He was a bit taken aback by this and he let me go. I'm glad that he let me go, but I was a bit miffed at the reason for being pulled over, mostly because the stop put me about 20 minutes late. When I arrived, Redstikr was there to see his boy off.

We took off back to Angleton and met up with FISHNNUT and his son Nathan. They hooked on the Gray Ghost and we hooked up the Ugly Mudda. We made it to SLP ahead of schedule to find WillieP already in the water and ready to roll. Ztrede showed right on time and jumped in to help in the launching process. TMO and Fishbobr arrived just as we were launching.

I jumped in the Gray Ghost with FISHNNUT and Nathan and we all met up at the camp. FISHNNUT's reason for coming was to take the Gray Ghost on a test ride. With the new boat on the way, I had to sell one of the tin cans to get some money to pay back my dad and most importantly to get room to put the new boat. Well, as it turns out, he had made up his mind as soon as he pulled it out of my driveway. We all headed over to the Ghost Camp with the equipment and got to work.

Not wanting to waste FISHNNUTS' whole day, I asked him if he wanted the boat. He said, "It's a deal". So we loaded her with one last load of debris and took off for the ramp, Fishbobr behind us to ferry me back to the worksite. We sealed the deal and I watched him haul her away. I always get attached to my boats, and this one was no different. She arrived in my driveway just as I had a catostrophic outboard failure with the Mudda back in June, and thanks to Fishbobr she served us very well for 6 months. We wouldn't be where we are in our progress if it weren't for her. I was proud to captain her, even though she leaked badly, she rode and hauled magnificently. I will miss her.

Fishbobr and I arrived back at the worksite to find the guys had completely cleared the top deck and 007 said we were going to take it all the way down TODAY! Everyone decided that I had to go up the ladder for the first and only time and we'd all have lunch at the top. It wasn't easy and it took a couple of attempts. I felt like it took me hours to get up that ladder. Once on top, we all gathered together and I gave a toast, "Here's to all who have come here and hammered and sawed on this place, and here's to Glenn Mueck, we wish you were here to see this." We took pics, took in the view and had a wonderful lunch provided by WillieP.

It took me about 3 days to get back down the ladder. Once there, I went about my picking up and hauling as usual, WillieP and 007 ran around cutting supports and pilings. We were summoned several times to try to tug her down, but something was stopping it from happening. At this point, 007 jumped on the daredevil train and grabbed the chainsaw. He cut the last piling and scampered away from the falling platfom just ahead of the jaws of death. HOLY COW! I would be lying if I told you I was calm at witnessing this. It was a tenuous moment to say the least. After this bit of excitement we called it a day.

Willep, Fishbobr, and TMO headed home and Primer, 007, Ztrede and I headed back to the camp. It was a glorious afternoon and evening. The wind died completely and we had a great meal of quail and venison supplied by Ztrede as well as some fried chicken supplied by Fishbobr and TMO. Once the sun went down, it was just too cold to hang out on the porch, so we all huddled around the heater in the kitchen and had a good time. We retired one by one, until it was just me. I wrote in the camp journal and looked back on the happenings of the day, finally succumbing to the sand man and jumped into a warm bed. I drifted off thinking about blessed I am to have so many friends willing to give their time and effort to making things happen. The new heater I got was a HOSS, keeping us from freezing to death. It was not at all an uncomfortable night, but it was still chilly. I'm certain that the temps got below freezing outside the bedroom.

I awoke very late thanks to nobody waking me when they said they would. 007 was in late evening form already, and I whipped up a good breakfast. We finally got to the Ghost Camp at 11:30. Primer and Ztrede went about hacking at the platform as 007 maniacally weilded the chainsaw. They then cleared all the boards and pilings closest to the water line. By 2:30 I could see it was time to go if we wanted to have our boil. Milkjug called about then to say he wanted to come out and help. Being a devious opportunist, I'm certain he knew it was too late to help, and he'd be just in time for the boil. Ztrede had to head in ASAP to deal with some things, so it was good that Yan showed up to eat his share of food.

The victory meal was had, boiled taters, corn, sausage, and chicken. It seems this is becoming a tradition that everyone enjoys. We packed up and left feeling pretty good about everything. I'll reiterate that I am a blessed man indeed to have such friends willing to give their time to this project.

Y'all feel free to tell your own stories and of course post pics. There are a lot more of them out there. I'll have my pics up tomorrow.

It looks like next Saturday won't be too good for workin', I don't want to keep anyone from fishing the tournament either. So I'll take the day off, maybe hit the boat show. I'm still planning on going Sunday and I just remembered that I also have Monday off, so a 2 day trip it is. I'll need volunteers to help haul debris by water and by road. We found some folks that would be happy to take it all for a bonfire on the beach. I'll especially need folks with chainsaws, as 007 took both mine and 2112's home to fix them. So pencil Blockade Runners in for Sunday or Monday, or both if you can make it. 20 days and counting 'til the deadline.

Sandy, did you guys take any debris to those guys on the beach?? They were quite happy with the wood we gave them. If they are still there next week, we can deposit a lot of the camp over there. I think I might be able to take monday off, we'll see.

Glad you signed up over here Rusty. It's a bit early to be sure on the weather, but I'm planning on launching around 11am again. I'll throw up an invite on Wednesday.

It seems that the chainsaws did not make it back with Mike as they are somehow still in the boat. He won't be able to fix them up, sooooo we'll DEFINITELY need chainsaws to come with the volunteers next week.

Ok, I'm an idjit. I thought the trout tourney was on Saturday, but it's on Sunday. No problem if y'all can't make it because you're fishing the tourney. If you're not fishin' the tourney, we sure could use your help.

I'm having a work day at my house too . Do you know I haven't washed any dishes since October, nor have I folded any clothes since September. I won't even mention the condition of my bathroom. I won't let people in my house right now. I need a wife. I plan on cleaning and preparing for the 2 day trip and doing some maintenance issues that have been neglected ever since Ike.

What's he doin' at his house anyway? Maybe someone else here can jump on it. Tell him to post up a new thread. One thing I've learned here in FWE is, if you post it, they will come.
