  • West Bay Dredging - 2015 Proposed Disposal Sites

The corps has plans to be back dredging the ICW from the Causeway to Bastrop. I have attached a map showing the dredge spoil sites that the COE published at their annual meeting a few months ago.

We will need to start getting involved and voicing our concerns over the placement of the discharge hoses. Three years ago they placed pipes out over oyster reefs and sea grass. The area was covered with 8-10" of silt and effectively killed and choked out the life in the area.

    Coe,
It says open/upland spoil and I'm not sure what that actually means. The time frame is due to seagrasses??. I sent an email to the Corp. for clarification. I'll contact TP&W and Galveston Bay Foundation about this too. From my experience last time, it doesn't matter who promises what, unless someone watches the dredge operators.

I saw the project in a very limited detail. Didn't see the disposal areas, unles they were in yellow and too small to see. Please keep us posted, Kenny.

Good move Kenny, if I remember right the Galveston Bay Foundation was a big help in getting the discharges moved last time.
I don't remember the contact persons name but that's a good place to start. If there needs to be any additional emails or phone calls let us know. Cole was there a time frame to when the dredging would begin?

You would think after last time you would not even need to mention this to the Corp but we all know how those things work out.
cole thanks for bringing this up.

Here's a link to people you might want to email at Galveston Bay Foundation, They also have a chairman & board of directors. Let's see if the Army Corp answers any of my questions? http://galvbay.org/about/about-us/gbf-staff/

Bob Stokes at the GBF would be the main contact.

Sea grass goes dormant for a few months a year if I remember correctly.

I have a patient who is involved with the Galveston Bay Foundation . I don't remember if he's on the board or not . I'll contact him to see where the foundation is on this and what they recommend the public to do to voice concern on the matter .

I've heard back from GBF and the GLO. They're both interested in the issue, and will email me when they know something or have something to say. I haven't heard back from TP&W or the Army Corp. yet.

                              Well,
The GBF is "looking into it".
The GLO "forwarded it to the proper person".
ACE "forwarded it to the project manager".
                              Still nothing from TP&W.

i just sent the second round of emails, and I'll keep sending them until I get the desired replies and results.
