  • The skunk continues. with one excepton ID this fish

The skunk continues, could not loose a dead shrimp yesterday.
Fished from cruze port back to the kema channel, started out fighting fog, then the north wind came up. Three weekends now basically nothing.
Others are the ramp heard talking about lots of dink trout .
I did come across this critter, released.
I thought it was a dog fish, but on observation on my deck , it looked more like a horn-toad , yes when our
generation were kids we played with horn toads. During my scuba diving days I saw many dangerous rock fish that
would display fins in this manner I am not sure this was one of those. I used two pair of pliers to make sure this
guy made it back without getting at me first.
With all of that said, Name this fish. (caught near houston cruize port ) 7 feet of water.

Yep, Sea Robin. I've only caught these in New York Harbor.
From 1970-1997, true heaven on Earth existed on the banks of Bayou Cook. "Hey Dad, Thanks for buying the Camp."

The Sea Robin got sucked into the ballast tanks of a ship on the East coast and was discharged into Galveston harbor during off load. Coincidentally a few days later Planohog catches this fish & starts this thread. Case closed! LOL

I remember seeing those as a kid when I used to cull shrimp on Dad's boat.

While there are still a few birds working, the pattern is definitely easing into more of a winter pattern.

Planohog...how much are you looking at finding structure...like oyster reefs etc? or on that shoreline, old pilings. That shoreline you are fishing has some potential this time of year, there's usually a trout or 2 hanging around.

I do admire your dedication. you'll get there, just do go too long without getting some info that will help you start locating fish.

I try all the hot spots located in my neigbhorhood and a few that I have found on my own that produced in the past. Next time Ill keep wife on dead shrimp and ill throw a few plastics. I did notice that there is on the charts an exposed pipe on the charts just out of the
kema channel, I ran up and down it looking to see just what that was, never did see it but there was fish holding along that path, just couldnt get them to bite.
I even tried the channel, found a place to tie up across from bubbas , current was hard outbound. 4oz led didnt help much. that bottom there is hard. The guys that fish from that old dock area often , teased me pretty good about not needing a 22ft boat to fish there. I told them "I am a local so thanks for sharing your doc with me". They seemed to crack a smile on that one. The guy throwing a cast net was doing pretty good for bait. We like to cruize the channel and watch , lots of people catch in the channel. There are normally boats tied to anything available from the lake to the bay on both sides.
