Learned my lesson,
Wife and I exporing and fishing checked out the channel on north side of this huge spoil island. ( huge square island )
caught a couple of rays on dead, then decided to go around to the east ( away from the ship channel ) . We commented
on the waves breaking on the rocks there but did not feel there was and danger as the ships passed. Nothing noteable on the
back side , kept our distance from shore nice calm flat 7 feet . I spent some time trying to find the wreck on the southeast
corner playing with electronics , couldnt find it , fished some as we made our way back towards the ship channel on the south
side. Noticed a boat at the south west corner closest to the ship channel so we fished some 1/2 mile out from that same corner.
We were drifting slowly and watched as two ships passed each other not far from our location.
My first hint of danger was the huge waves breaking agains the west bank along the channel, WOW i though , never go fish there.
this must have been from the south bound ship. Pretty soon, I saw my challenge, they looked HUGE. I thought maybe I can out
run them back towards the east. Nope. they streched out in that direction pretty far. Nothing to do but fight head on. ( movie perfect storm running in my head ) Throttled to the top of the first, cut power for the ride down. Power again for the second , the third and forth
version were not nasty like that first one. I would bet easy 5 - 7 and starting to break from the north side. We did not get wet , that would have been a great picture on the front page of a fishing mag. Lotta air on the first wave. , not going fishing over there again,
I wonder how that boat closer to shore made out.
