  • Rod tip repair

I lost the insert out of the tip of my favorite rod. It is an all star Corky Special. How difficult is it to replace the ceramic out of a rod tip, and where is the best place to buy what I need, or who should I have do it?

You can not replace the ceramic part of the eye, you will need to buy the whole peice.

If you use braid, you will need to drop the coin and buy the expiensive ones.

For the tip, you can replace your own, with a simple hot glue gun.

For the rest, there are a ton of rod makers that can make a simple repair

I had the same problem last week, took it to ftu and they had it fix in a few minutes.

Where is Charlie located? I have a Loomis Greenwater series that is missing a few of the middle eyes and it might be cheaper to let him repair than to ship all the way to Loomis, and pay the $50.

I'm going next Monday, and pretty sure Friday after working Thursday night. Going to get the boat, so I can have it here. I haven't run it in 3 months, I always end up in someone elses. Saturday, I promised to help out Sandy...you going?

I stopped at FTU and didn't have the rod with me. They said $3.00 + the tip, so I will run it by tomorrow. I would take it to Charlie, but it is too far just for a tip.

I let them do mine because the tip of the rod had broke off. They cut it back to the second eye, removed it, and matched the now 6'3" rod with a new tip right at the wrap. It looks like the rod was made that way. It is officially the lightest Laguna Extreme you will find...aluminum reel seat and all!

Just heat up the tip guide and pull it off with a glove or pliers. It'll come right off. Go by FTU with the rod and get a tip that will fit. Heat the new tip and slide it on.... wahlah!

I carry a spare eye and glue. A lot of times, if it has come loose, just heat it back up(it only takes a second) and it'll reseat with what glue is in the tip ferul.
