Made it out to FTU for about an hour. It was worth the trip to see a couple of good friends and see Steve Rajeff cast. Wish that my time constraints hadn't been what the were, but could only spare a short time there. Watched Casey Smart and a few others from Texas Fly Fishers tying and talked to some great people. I didn't get a chance to talk to Rick Hartman or watch him cast, but seen him before on TV.
Also got to try a handful of new rods, and man has the industry changed. Lots of good gear out there these days. Also got into a discussion about lines, since I haven't bought one in over 5 years. The fly industry is constantly pushing the envelope of technology, so of course there are some great new products out.
Seeing that there is this much interest in the sport and this type of event, makes me think that I need to bring back the coastal fly fishing school.
Anybody out there that would attend an inexpensive school in the Clear Lake area that taught casting and fishing techniques, knots, rigging ect. and had a few guide seminars for popular destinations in Texas? If I can find enough interest I may just bring this event back. Last time we did this was in 2002, and we had about 50 in attendance, with sponsors and great door prizes. Tackle reps on hand and a boat dealer to bring out some skiffs.
