  • Fly Casting Demo

Made it out to FTU for about an hour. It was worth the trip to see a couple of good friends and see Steve Rajeff cast. Wish that my time constraints hadn't been what the were, but could only spare a short time there. Watched Casey Smart and a few others from Texas Fly Fishers tying and talked to some great people. I didn't get a chance to talk to Rick Hartman or watch him cast, but seen him before on TV.

Also got to try a handful of new rods, and man has the industry changed. Lots of good gear out there these days. Also got into a discussion about lines, since I haven't bought one in over 5 years. The fly industry is constantly pushing the envelope of technology, so of course there are some great new products out.

Seeing that there is this much interest in the sport and this type of event, makes me think that I need to bring back the coastal fly fishing school.

Anybody out there that would attend an inexpensive school in the Clear Lake area that taught casting and fishing techniques, knots, rigging ect. and had a few guide seminars for popular destinations in Texas? If I can find enough interest I may just bring this event back. Last time we did this was in 2002, and we had about 50 in attendance, with sponsors and great door prizes. Tackle reps on hand and a boat dealer to bring out some skiffs.

Man, There are probably some locals that know him that might buy. Strange, but I would like to seem that stuff in good hands. If I had any money I would buy all of it. Got a box of his flies, and the stuff that is obviously his probably won't ever see the water. maybe a collage of Chirs Phillips-ness....

I need a test run. I will start shopping this around and see what kind of industry support i can get. My old partner/instructor has retired from the frustrations of the industry. Not sure if he would have any interest in coming back. I'm sure that getting the guides up here wouldn't be difficult. This was one of my favorite events in the past, we spent a 6 hour day teaching at stations, had guide seminars and tying instruction. We got Chuck Scates involved one year, along with Chuck Uzzle From Sabine. I'm feeling motivated....
