Was the American Acryl Plant in Bayport. From GDN:
The explosion happened at about 9 a.m. at the American Acryl chemical plant in the Bayport complex operated by the Port of Houston between Seabrook and La Porte in Harris County. Two people were hurt in the blast and were being treated at Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital and were last reported in good condition, KHOU-TV reported.
Emergency management officials said that an unknown amount of acrylic acid and Toluene were released during the explosion.
Residents in the shelter in place communities were asked to stay indoors and seal their windows and doors and turn off the air conditioning and heating systems.
Schools in those communities were also under the shelter in place order and parents are instructed that their children are safe and that classes are continuing on schedule. The Clear Creek school district had 28 campuses sheltering in place, spokeswoman Janice Scott said.
The Dickinson school district also put all of its campuses east of I-45 under a shelter in place order, spokeswoman Tammy Dowdy said. That order was lifted at about 10:40 a.m.
Two sections of state Highway 146 near the entrance to the Bayport terminal were shut down.
Exposure to acrylic acid can cause severe skin irritation and breathing problems. It can also cause severe eye damage. Toluene can cause breathing problems and minor skin irritations.
League City spokeswoman Kristi Wyatt said residents in that city were complaining of having funny taste in their mouths.

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. Good News, Well better than it could have been. I heard abou this on my way in this evening and called one of my buddies that works next door. No one was hurt. I worked in the plant next door for 5 years and the one guy that went to the hospital for observation was a kid that hired in while I was there. I was told that he is fine, was standing behind a vessel that saved his arse!!!! Everything in the area is charred. Blew the tank possibly over 100 yards from it's intended location.
So the good news part was that the only person in the area, who I know personally, is just fine. they are either still trying to determine the cause, or just not ready to tell the world what happened. Better than the last explosion in our area. I made a phone call that afternoon to a friend who worked at BP, and he told me he couldn't talk because they were busy trying to get an accurate body count. Man, I'm glad I don't do that stuff anymore!!http://www.theshallowist.com

You know, I just realized, while I was sleeping, I heard a thud like a big truck was on our street. Like maybe a garbage truck, but our trash pickup isn't until tomorrow...that must of been it.Originally posted by 2112 View PostScarry **** eh, FoF?
