The worst is Garcia's..I grew up throwing em..they were great for that time period..but since Shimano came on line..well -I never looked back ..I have thrown every Diawa made and got stuck on the Millionaire for a little while..but once I got the curado in my hand..nuff said.My next two purchases will be 2- 300E's..I just wish All Star would bring back the Emerald Edition 6 1/2 ft.

I have two that I'm playing with these days, TD Advantage, like it, rock solid and don't think that you could hurt this thing, maybe a little heavy by todays satndards. The other is a Zillion, much smaller and lighter in the hand, same on durability, like all Daiwa high end, they will make a slight noise after salt exposure but still work like new. I'm pretty sure that the issue is tight tolerances that don't agree with any salt at all.
Don't have much experience with newer Shimano, haven't handled any in the last few years.http://www.theshallowist.com

All of the good technology from the last years of All Star in Houston went to American Rodsmith, along with the VP of Sales ( Bob Brown) and administrator (Kim Smith) I'm on teh team. Check out the Trout Master Lite series at the Boat Show next month. My absolute favorite!!!http://www.theshallowist.com

I tried the H3..clumsy as hell to me..I know the All Star story..I like All Stars becuz when something goes wrong you just take it right back to Academy and exchange it..no questions asked..I use the Platinum ones right now..I have never had to take a All Star back yet..never broke on yet either... This summer for my 50th birthday I am going to buy myself a custom made rod..with my name on it..I wil let you figure out which one that is..
ps..why do all the American Rodsmiths have a "china " sticker at the end of the rod handle???MY Website: http://mysite.verizon.net/respvhvl

Two cents.......
The low profiles are nice. I remember when my 6 month old Garcia C3 gave me a problem while fishing. I returned it to Academy the and the guy behind the counter said I should try the Citica. I was surprised just like you on the comfort and castability. Over the years I upgraded to the Chronarch that I dearly loved and used the heck out of with no problems. Now I'm into the magnesium reels that are very light. I immediately noticed my forearm didn't get tired after a long day casting with lures. I tried three other brands over the years but always came back to Shimano.Fishwhisperer

Walk through a tackle store and find one that doesn't say that same thing on the handle. When All Star was here they manufactured. Most of the small Texas rod companies got started buying from them. I was very invoved with that company, more with the fly rods but enough to know the MAN who designed the Titanium series and put them into production. My guess is that American Rodsmith has the mandrels that they were wrapped on and it doesn't really matter where they are done as long as the recipe is the same. There is a lot of technology that goes into the orriginal design and production schedules, after that it's pure repitition. Not sure who builds blanks for those other companies these days but all are very similar in action and taper, just a Q of what graphite, coating, color..... Lot of great rods out there that were all spawned by all Star and guy named Don Mook. He's back in Washington state, probably has a private label rod company that sells to builders. He's the man who desinged and built the orriginal LCI( Loomis Composite Inc) factory and the Lamiglass as well. the later is not known well in this part of the country but is a giant in other areas. Man, that 6 years working with them was a very good learning experience for me. Unbelievealbe ammount of product testing and learning about the technology that goes into a fishing rod.http://www.theshallowist.com
