You gentlemen are awesome. Can't tell you how much I appreciate the info. Keep it coming. I am going to keep my spot in the state park for this trip but I will take some time to check out the camping at the pass. Maybe next time. I think I'd be nervous leaving my stuff out on the open. I know it's silly. Everything I read on forums in the past were all negative when it came to camping at the pass. Maybe they were just trying to discourage people.

Stay at the GSP camp and drive to where you want to fish . You can camp on the beach next time . You're minutes away from a fishing spot on Follets or Christmas . You can drive down to the beach on Follets and check it out for camping potential .GEORGE A. BRANARD, COLOR SERGEANT, CO. L, 1 ST TEXAS INFANTRY, HOOD'S TEXAS BRIGADE, C.S.A. : S.C.V.

I wouldn't leave my stuff at the pass while fishing either! it is a good place to camp if not on a Friday or Saturday night. you can set up camp right on the water and fish all night. yes, car bodies and boilers used to be fishing and surfing spots a long time ago. the salt water has done them in, nothing but sand now.the fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad.

Just wanted to add an updated here, it's been a long time. But the trip went great. I caught a small croaker on Friday in the surf at the pass. Saw a lot of blue crabs in the West Bay but most were too small to keep. On Saturday morning I got a couple of nice hits in Christmas Bay but missed both. I caught one catfish in the surf while I was down there. I then went back up to West Bay and caught a couple of nice redfish right before dusk but they were just under 20". Sunday I caught a flounder in West Bay. Had a larger one but it threw the hook. It was a great trip!
