  • Grass in Olffatts?

Just read the thread on artificial reefs where grass beds are mentioned, and I wonder if there are any in Olffatts. I remember the fun of sandy circles in the grass fields of Redfish Bay off Aransis Pass.

Actually the last time (many Yeats ago) I used my father's then-antigue Shakespeare level wind with early braided line that took the fun out of a couple of keepers. I was used to mono and having to be very careful of breakage. I figured the ancient braid needed even more care. But the first retrieve came right in without much fight, making me think it was a rat red. When it wasn't, I thought maybe it was sickly. But the second quick reprieve proved it was the braided libecand classic reel. Anyway, grass in aOlffatts?

I've never fished it, but I don't see why not.

I've been in there quite a bit and I haven't seen any but that doesn't mean their isn't any. Mostly mud, oyster reefs and deep holes in my experience.

I have never seen any grass there. A lot of Offatts is too deep for grass and even the shallows have been dredged at one time or another. Also constant boat wakes in Offatts would make it hard for grass to hold. More likely to find old bricks and shucked oyster shells there. It was a oyster fisherman and commercial and residential dock area until the early 1900's when they began to use "borrow" from Offatts to build the seawall. Thirty years ago I use to wade fish near where Moody Gardens is now and the area was loaded with bricks, shell and old junk ("wader killers"). Wasn't a bad trout and panfish spot to fish however. Have caught some pretty good size drum, trout and other fish in Offatts in the winter.

Christmas Bay's south shoreline is the only place that seagrass has been reported in any study within the last 20 years. I don't know if it's still in Christmas even.

fished x-mas a few times this winter and its full of grass on the south shoreline.
the fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad.

No grass in Offats that I've seen, and I've spent some long days grinding in there...Plenty of grass all over West Bay and Christmas...they need to update the study...

They must not have surveyed in the last 10 or 15 years. Quite a bit of grass around now.
