Congrats on the new kayak Jeremy. Great fishing and flounder gigging transportation tool.
No, just 2 ropes. 1 would do but I like to have a backup.Use bungies to tie it down?
Since you are using rachets, be careful not to overtighten it. The plastic isn't the hardest in the world. I've seen a kayak tied down to roof racks (this one tool leaves it on his SUV as a permanent fixture, a formerly nice tarpon 140 too!) that were severely warped from the pressure on the roof rack and the ties. This is obviouly an extreme case, but you get the idea. Don't rachet too tight, and loosen/undo them if you are leaving it there for a while. This is even more important in the summer, as the heat further softens the plastic.
Along the same lines, if you store your kayak on its side, put something (blocks, big pool noodles, etc) for it to rest on 1/3 of the distance from either end. Otherwise your kayak is resting only in the middle, and over time, can warp as gravity is pulling down on both ends. If you store it flat or upside down, this isn't a problem.
If you store it hanging, hang it from straps 1/3 distance from either end, not from straps attached to the tips. Same reason.
Not true. Red flag is all you need. Lights are a good idea, but not a legal necessity.had a red flag on the end. He said that won't do, need a light in the dark
Now you need some accessories Jeremy.
Drift sock had definenly given me the biggest improvement in my fishing.
Folding anchor or bruce claw anchor is needed.
Milk crates are the best way to strore your gear in the back of the yak.
Lenght of rope so you can drag the kayak easier through marsh mud. You also use the rope to tie the yak to your waist, so you can drag it behind you when you flounder gig or wade fish (so you don't have to walk back to it)
You need a 360-degree light if you are out during low light conditions (essential if you are gigging or waterfowling)
Sweet purchase man!
