  • Blockade Runners Invite Halloween Weekend

Looks like 007 and I will be hitting the launch at around 10am Saturday. Weather is shaping up nicely for the weekend. We'll have some priming to do on the facia boards, but the rest of the trip should be dedicated to working on the Ghost Camp. I'll be bringing a pumpkin to carve up. Can't be out there on All Hallows Eve without a Jack-O-Lantern to scare away the evil spirits. Trick or Treaters welcome. I'll be giving away individual lures.

Everyone is welcome, especially if you can offer a hand on the work. I've got plenty to do for anyone who is completely unskilled. If you want to fish the lights and spend the night, we'll have 5 beds open, one real bed, one mattress on the floor, one air mattress, and 2 cots. I've got a rack of ribs for dinner, aside from that, it's pot luck. I'm broke. - Sandy

Not much interest just yet. Looks like Coe is maybe going to come out and help us with some amphibious operations. I've been working closely with a graphics guy for rank badges. Coe may earn his Confederate Navy diving dolphins this weekend.

007 disappeared, so I guess I'm alone this weekend until Coe shows up. Y'all give a call if you want to come out. It'll be great weather for sure. - Sandy

                            Had a great time

It was a great weekend out there. Couldn't have asked for better weather. I didn't get out there until noon or so. When I got things settled and began taking dry wall off of the front inside wall in the kitchen. I got tired of that and took a boat ride to scout depth of pilings for Coe over at the Ghost Camp. There was a BIG fire going on between Choco Bayou and Angleton. It looked very violent. I took some pics of the Ghost Camp and headed home. It was a nice ride and the Gray Ghost really moves out when empty.

When I got back I had some unexpected visitors who needed to borrow some tools to get their old Ted Williams outboard running right. That was fun to watch. Idecided to do some fishing and I was rewarded with a couple oyster fish and a brute 31 inch redfish. I was trying for hardheads to bait the crab traps and he surprised me. Talk about FUN! I hadn't hung up on a big red in a while and it sure felt good. Right after setting the red off on his way, I got a surprise. I was out on the dock when the "Cadillac of the Sky" (Empire of the Sun reference), a P-51 Mustang buzzed me. He couldn't have been more then 500 feet up. WOW!!!!! Well I got comfy on the porch and within about a minute, he buzzed me again, this time even lower. He was dipping his wings too. FREAKIN' COOL!

I carved my Jack-0-Lantern and got ready for sunset, which was beautiful. Jack and I managed to keep the evil spirits at bay. Despite my having plenty of beers to give any trick or treaters, nobody showed. I hit the sack, but couldn't get to sleep for some reason. So I got back to wok on the drywall and removed ALL of it on the front wall. I kept hacking at it and when I finished, I finally looked at the clock, it was 5:30am! Dad Gum! I had no problem sleeping until 10 or 11am when Walker arrived at the boat ramp.

I half expected to find him wearing a pirate hat. Of course I put him right to work hauling bags full of gypsum to the trash cans. Coe called as we left the dock saying he couldn't make it, so I quickly scheduled some front porch sitting in lieu of piling cutting. Hope you got the truck started Coe. I've met so many great people from fishing sites and Walker is no exception. Since I got all the planned work done last night, that left little for us to do but enjoy the day. We cleaned up a bit and exchanged many wonderful stories. Of course I wanted to hear all about Anegada and he happily obliged. We talked baseball too, and it was nice to meet someone else that loves the game as I do. After seeing a big blow up, Walker broke out the fly rod and attempted to work some magic on a redfish, but it didn't work out. I was really hoping to see him catch one on the fly. He also rescued the big truck box from the marsh. That thing keeps trying to get away and I'm going to let it. Anyone want a truck box?

About 4pm it was time to pack up. I really hated to leave. With the great weather I was itching to play hooky tomorrow. Thanks for the help and the good times Walker. It was enjoyable having you out. Hopefully next weekend will be as beautiful as this one was and we'll get more done. I'm still hoping to get the Ghost Camp out of there by Thanksgiving and the outside of Blockade Runners done by Christmas. Hopefully this coming weekend we'll get the soffit up all around and make a good run at the Ghost Camp. Here are a few pics. - Sandy
