Meh, corkies are highly over-rated. I have a big variety of soft plastic shrimp, Cocahoe minnows, and mullet/shad including Gulp and in some situations I am still throwing topwaters in low winds. Corkies are something of a North Texas fad that is not common down south here. If you're confident with 'em, fish on! What I found out was the lure says more about the fisherman than the fish.
Actually, corkys are more common down here than you think, after all Paul Brown developed them down here. As far as what it says about the fishermen that use them, I'd be curious to know exactly what that might be?
swells lives in south padre I think. I don't use them much at all either but plan to start. my friend in Tampa has been using them lately and catching just about everything with corkys. trout, snook, amberjack, smacks, reds and flounder. I think that is all he throws now!
the fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad.
I sent my brother in Willmington , NC , a corky devil and a corky when Paul was still making them . About 2 years later he called me and said he didn't really use them but one day tied on the devil and caught the biggest trout he'd ever landed. He wanted to know more about them . LOL
TERMO , are you talking about the devils that are not pre rigged with the treble hook ? Just a big soft plastic devil ? I have some from Paul's garage days and rigged them weightless with a wide gap hook and with a 1/16 wide gap jighead . I was never satisfied with the result and just use the devil . I use corkys and fat boys a lot more than the devils .

Yeah Swells, nobody in Baffin or Mansfield EVER throw Corkys, they all use soft plastic shrimp, Cocahoe minnows, and mullet/shad including Gulp! NOT!!
Right Kenny , I don't get it either . Pay no never mind to Mike Mc Bride , Kevin Cochran , Jay Watkins and others down south who seem to have them as an integral part of their wade box .

I dunno, I hang out with some of the best charter, tourney, and local fishermen down by SPI and Port Isabel and I just don't see many Corkys being used or even in the box. Maybe I don't hang with enough of the bestus - don't be getting mad at me! It's OK. Glad you like 'em. Fish on!
I quit using treble hooks when I bought my last quart of live shrimp at 4.00 dollars. I will throw a sprite on occasions. Catch fish any way you can or know how. Different strokes for different folks. Curmudgeon is right.
