  • This Weekend at Blockade Runners Oct. 24-25

Things are taking shape for this weekend. If you're not heading to the Redfish Tournament as you should be, we could as always use a hand. We're concentrating 99% on the Ghost Camp this weekend and trying to sneak in some fun at the 2cool gathering on Sam's Beach at the same time.

I'll pick up 007 early around 5:30am or so and head back to Angleton to grab the boat. We'll meet up with the 2 man work crew at the ramp at 8am and head to the camp to gather what we need. Then it's to the Ghost Camp to get to work. I plan on making a trip into the ramp to unload some lumber at noon. We'll get everyone back to the camp for lunch and head back to work. Around 3pm, Mike and I will leave the workers to head to the 2cool thing for a couple of hours, bringing a little lumber to burn of course. We'll head back to pick the workers up around sunset. Then dinner and fishin' under the lights.

Sunday we'll get the workers going bright and early. 007 might want to fish the surf and I'll see if we can fit that in. I reckon we'll finish up by 3pm Sunday. We'll take the big magnet Deano is supplying down to the burn pile on the beach and clean it up of any nails.

If anyone wants to join, just let me know. - Sandy

We've been out there in 30 degree weather. I think we can handle it. Remember that big freeze in the 80's? The edges of the bayou I was on in La. were solid ice. Me? I was scooping frozen fish out of pipeline canals. I hate cold, but I'll deal with it when I'm out there.

I love it when it gets cold!
I work just enough to pay for my fishing habit.

I can take the cold no problem, but give me shorts and flip flops everytime. Winter does make the caribbean seem that much better though.

Looks like 007 will be down at the beach and I'll pick him up in the morning. Torque and his son might come out too. I got some sausage and potatoes to throw into a crab boil if'n we catch some. If not, it'll be a farmers boil.

I never thought so many of y'all would want Deano's sausage.

Well, the stars are just not aligned right with the workers so we're going to try again with them next weekend. It'll work out though. 007 is down at the beach and I'll pick him up in the morning. We'll head out from the launch at 9am with Torque and son and do some damage and have some good times. If anyone else wants to join, just let me know. - Sandy

It was a great weekend. We had a lot of fun and got a lot done. I picked up 007 and Cartman at the beach at 8:30 and we headed to the ramp where we were met immediately by Torque and his son Ryan, whom I kept wanting to call Matt all weekend. We got to the camp and readied ourselves for a trip to the Ghost Camp. On our way, I saw a first in the SLP area, a sail boat in Cold Pass. Pretty cool looking craft. Once there, 007 and Torque went to work upstairs while I did my go-fering with a huge amount of help from Ryan and a little from Cartman. We headed back to the ramp and loaded up someone's truck who was headed to the 2cool gathering. So nice to burn this stuff in a bonfire rather than carting it home. Cartman headed back to the gathering and we went back to the camp for sammiches.

After lunch and a little fishin' we headed back for round 2. We loaded up the debris in my truck and I dropped Torque and Ryan back at the camp for some father and son time. 007 and I hit the 2cool gathering and one of us had a little too much fun.

So we headed back to the camp around 8:30pm or so. Torque had taken over dinner and had done some work on the place too. 007 had dinner and fell asleep in his chair despite my repeated admonitions that he MUST get in bed. Ryan hit the sack too and Torque twisted my arm into fishin' under the lights with him. It's been a while since I spent any real time fishing. With no real bait, we tried arties and I had the magic touch catching 5 or 6 white trout and 5 or 6 specks. Torque was having some tough luck, but he managed to hang a nice keeper red on a DOA under a cork. We had been C&Ring up to that point, but the red was bleeding like a stuck pig, so we boxed him. Nice catch Torque! The action really slowed up after a while, so I decided it was time to start enjoying the camp the way I really love to - sans generator noise. I cut the gen and we did some front porch sittin' until about 2:30 or so. We really passed a good time.

Apparently sometime during the night the wind decided to visit again and man was it blowing this morning. We didn't even attempt to get to the Ghost Camp. Instead 007 and Torque took to clearing all the dry wall and cardboard off the living room interior wall. I did what I do best, stay out of the way and cook and clean. We had some berled cwabbies and I even threw in a canned ham and all the leftovers from dinner. It was all good. It was a good day topped off with a Texans victory on the black and white tv.

We loaded up the Gray Ghost and galloped out of there around 3:30. I gotta thank 007 for all his hard work as usual. I sure do appreciate Torque and Ryan for coming out and doing so much. Torque got the camp looking almost respectable by cleaning up inside. I sure did enjoy having y'all out and thanks so much for lending a hand. I hope y'all enjoyed it as much as I did. Hope to see y'all out again soon.

Heading to the launch I had the disastrous sounding Saints game on the radio. Once we got in the truck, it got worse. Thankfully they woke up and put the perfect finishing touch on the weekend by putting the Dolphins away just as I dropped 007 off in Pasadena.

This coming weekend we'll chew on the Ghost Camp some more and perhaps start hanging some interior wall panels at Blockade Runners. Trick or Treaters are encouraged at Blockade Runners this coming Saturday night.
