  • New to West End fishing

Hello! I've just found your site and it's filled with lots of great information. I'm looking forward to learning a lot from this site.

We've just brought our 23 ft. Polar center console fishing boat down to Pirate's Cove, where it'll live at my sister's house. We took it out for the first time last weekend but didn't have any luck. We don't know where we should go to fishi in the Pirate's Cove area. We're really new to saltwater fishing, so we have a lot to learn. Any suggestions about where to fish in the Pirate's Cove area? We aren't ready yet to venture out off-shore...just want to stay in the bay area. We fish with kids, so we want some safe and fun fishing sites. Thanks for any suggestions!

Welcome to the site! That area is full of great fishing. I like to find some bait and structure and drift-fish with artificials.

This was my first yr fishing GLV and I relied on this site too for a clue! The entire S. shore is full of coves from your back porch down to San Luis Pass. Try mid bay reefs, Chocolate Bay, Greens Pt, N & S Dear Island areas, Greens & Jones Lake.

        Good luck.

Contact Capt. Greg Francis at saltwaterassault.net. He helps sponsor this site and specializes in West bay-he also has some pointers on the home page of this site and you should read them. He will show you the ropes and knows his stuff. He is "Aqua Pimp" on this site. If ya see one of his posts, read it and learn. Good fishing to you.

By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. We'll have to link up and you can follow me around and I'll show you some spots and nav hazards to avoid that are just common in our area... Not that much different than a Karankawa indian hunting the shallows at night with a torch and a spear.

x2 for the Aqua Pimp. He will take care of you.

As the Administrator said, we have a place at Pirate's Cove, so if you see a 20' Tran Sport cruising around, yell out.

You have an awesome boat in the 23' Polar, however you may be a bit limited in some of the immediate shallow areas. Coming out of Lake Como heading north toward Green Cut you have an area called Meacoms, which is loaded with scattered shell. This time of year through the fall is good drifting. Look for slicks and birds. Your boat will do just fine. See you on the water!
