  • Very Big War Memorial News

Coe sorry for starting a new thread but I felt this news was too big to be put at the tail end of the other one...

The Marine Corps League Galveston County Detachment #668, made a donation last night of $5000.00 towards the memorial. That brings the grand total to date of just over $14,000.00. This means we are two thirds the way to the $21,000.00 needed to complete the project.

It is really even better because if we can raise another $3000.00 there will be enough to buy the momument stones which are the biggest cost. If we can raise $5000.00 then the cheaper version of the memorial can be completed.

The project is well on the way and FWE and the fine folks here have a lot to do with that. Especially Coe for donating and setting up the registation and donation page!

    Thanks from me personally!!!!!!
    Derek

Pass the word around about the fishing tournament, BBQ dinner and silent auction on the 19th. Click on the "Tournament" tab at the top of the page for all the information. Or I can email you some flyers.

Mike, that is really cool of you to donate your labor!

Derek, we will be there with smiles on and I hope we can make the auction a big hit (if you know what I mean)

It is awesome to see some real support for this project, FWE has been the best.

BTW check out the new FWE Clock that is one of the auction items. A picture is posted in the tournament sticky thread.......

Derek, don't make me start the bidding on that clock right now! I also like the poker table....... speaking of that, we need to have a friendly game some time to raise money for the site!

I have a slight correction to this information. I misunderstood what Abraham's mom sent me so here is the correct information.

The needed funds for the stones is in the $3K - $5K range. The $2K wiggle room is to cover the cost for engraving the names of the donors of $500 or more (money and in kind -- the wiggle room is that we have to finalize the in-kind list associated with the tournament donations).

So, $3K to $5K from the tournament will get the stones for the primary design. Any more beyond $5K gets funds for the concrete and site preparation. Any more beyond that will go to a serviceman-related scholarship fund.

I have to thank Betsy for keeping me straight.......

So with the Marine Corp donating $ 5,000, the stone is now paid for and what else is made at tourny will help pay for the concrete and site preparation. Am I correct? If so, you have to be close.

I may be able to get a friend to donate his tractor for the site work.....if not, if anyone has access to one, I can operate it.

No the Marine's donation brought us to within 3k of getting the stones.
