I just got home from wade fishing in The Pass (I always wear a life jacket when I fish there for the past 30 years). As I was pulling out 8 emergency vehicles raced in and went to the very back area (corner, close to where San Luis Pass intersects with Cold Pass). I saw a policeman at the Valero in Surfside and stopped and asked him what he knew. All he knew was that there was "a body", but he said he did not think that the call would have been for an ambulance if it was the young man who went missing last night. I'm thinking it probably was, unless someone who didn't know better stepped into the very deep hole that is back in that area. The currents (on the Brazoria County Side) aren't too bad on an outgoing tide which is what we had this evening and that is why I'm thinking that the body will end up being the boy from last night who I am pretty sure was on the Galveston side of the pass when he succumbed to the currents. The sad thing is that people who aren't familiar with the area just don't know. I do not think that the signs there are at all sufficient and should be much stronger. As a side note the area was packed with people this afternoon and evening and they were all acting as if the pass was the neighborhood pool. Probably 30 kids were out playing in the water and very few of which were wearing life vests. I told anyone and everyone that I spoke with (who could understand me and even some who couldn't), that were obviously camping tonight, to absolutely not go in the water and especially not to let their kids go in the water in the morning when the strong incoming tide will be ripping. While it sounds kinda backward, on the Brazoria County side at least, the incoming tide is far more dangerous. I seldom try to wade fish the pass on an incoming tide as it is just too hard and scarey.
