  • Time for a new camera: Advice Needed.

So the old 1999 Fujicam is giving me fits. 2112 gave me a great Kodak that goes UNDERWATER! But the darn thing doesn't take good pics in low light. I'm going to Anegada in a month, so I need to get a good camera for day AND night. I'll take the Kodak for underwater, but I need a SIMPLE and relatively inexpensive camera for my foray into the great wideopen BVI. Any advice for something south of $200? Water repellent is a plus.

May I remind y'all that I'm looking for SIMPLE. I looked around at Radio Shack and Wally World. I couldn't figure out how to turn one of them on!

I dont think there is a such thing as simple any more. I just buy what I think I might need after some research. Then I have my 14 year old daughter teach me how to use it because I dont want to read the 40 page manual it comes with.

But I do love my go pro camera now that I almost learned how to use it.

Sandy, someone with your level of intelligence should be able to use any camera or phone for that matter - you're just stubborn. I've got a kodak with an auto mode and you're welcome to it for your trip. Aside from that Reeltime has a really nice waterproof digital camera that takes great pics. Shoot him a PM and ask him what he's got.
      Shut up and FISH!!

It always amazes me when people take pride in their stupidity. Acting coy is not a good character trait in a grown man.

Guys, there's just different kinds of intelligence. My dad's an engineer, but I got Momma's brains. I appreciate your high opinion of my brains Mike, but when it comes to tech stuff, I'm still in 1998. Kenny, I wouldn't know how to act coy if'n you showed me. I'm not taking pride in my stupidity, just admitting my shortcomings. When I say I need something simple, I'm not kiddin'.

Get a digital camera compact with a good flash. You can get someone to teach you the different settings. You are looking for a point & click camera.

Look Sandy, I don't have a lot of filters that most people do, so I say exactly what I think. I call BULLCHIT.......you get attention for your "old fashion act", and that's being coy.

                    Sandy,

The Best Buy store in Lake Jackson (at Oyster Creek (hwy 332)) has the Nikon Coolpix S30 camera for about $90, 10mp (good resolution) water proof and shock resistant, doesn't go through batteries like crazy. It's about as "point and shoot" as you can get.

If not that store you can order it through Amazon or have it delivered for store pick-up through the Wal-Mart site.

x2. Nikon makes a helluva camera. We've owned Nikon and Canon in my house and like both. My wife is the shutterbug, but even I can figure out how to use the things. Oleander made an excellent suggestion, coachlaw.

Might be a good deal, but the ratings of it's picture quality are pretty dismal.

I mostly use two cameras here - a high-end Canon DSLR with thousands of dollars worth of lenses, and a Canon PowerShot D20. The D20 is waterproof to 33 feet and shockproof. I have to say, it takes wonderful pictures. Many of the ones that I post here were taken with it. For most shooting, the D20 ($now $279 from Amazon.com) does almost as well as the big rig.

I have two other waterproof point-and-shoots: a Pentax and an Olympus. The Canon totally blows those two away. It is that good.

We take the D20 everywhere. I have recommended it to many friends, and the people that bought one are very satisfied.

I know it is just a bit north of $200, but it is well worth it.

you won't find anything worth a crap under $200. Stop being cheap and get either the Cannon D20 or Olympus TG-830 or TG-2. What good is it to take pictures if they are going to be crappy pictures.

I do agree with Walker and kind of agree with Gilbert. I used a 6 mp camera for work photos in Fiji and they were OK.
