  • West, TX Plant Explosion

Say a prayer tonight for our brothers and sisters in West, TX. At 11:00pm, they are estimating 60-70 dead and hundreds hurt.

This is bad folks and I know the numbers are going to get worse.

What's wierd...66 years ago 2 days ago...Texas City exploded due to ammonium nitrate(fertilizer) with similiar devastation!

Looks like the news throttled back the death toll to 5-15. Looks like they got ahead of themselves last night. That is still not good news, but it is better than the 60-70 that was reported last night.

I worked on the repair of a similar Ammonium Nitrate plant explosion up in Iowa in the early '90s. I think it was the winter of '93 but I can't quite recall. I have some pictures of the damage in the plant - incredible.

Heartfelt prayers for those affected and in West, Texas.

It's pretty bad up there, worse than they've been saying on the news. Upwards of 60 missing, but many of them will hopefully be accounted for alive. I'm from the area....grew up about 15 miles from West. My aunt has been a teacher at West ISD for 20+ years. My cousin lives there in town and the blast caved her roof in. All my family are safe, thank God. I've been talking to them for the last two days and it's just crazy up there. One good thing....luckily it happened later in the day, after school was out. The school was very nearly destroyed completely by the blast. I can't even think about what would have happened it school was in.
