It's fine with me. Just enforce the dang thing. I see enough people who broke the law before, will only be easier now, and they still won't give a crap.

I wish they would do away with commercial flounder fishing all together.

I agree.. enforce it! i remeber last fall @ MOB.. almost every trip i see a group using a cast net trying to catch flounder.. go down the whole coastline throwing every couple ft or so... i know they probably picked up a few doing that..

That's actually legal.... not game fish. Doesn't seem like too much fun anyways, I'd get tired of throwing the thing really fast.

It seems like overkill to me.

Giggers(according to TPW statistics no less) don't really take that many flounder in the Galveston bay systems. At least thats what they told us back at the flounder meeting in LaMarque.

They said at the time they would likely increase the minimum size.
Well so much for that idea.

I agree with you guys. They need to HAMMER the lawbreakers.
Heck, they could do that any day of the week on the jetty but they don't.

I'd like to see a 5-5-5 limit on reds, trout, and flounder.

I wonder what it'd be like with no commecial boats of any type.

Would the bays explode with life...

Would the general public be able to taste the difference between farm raised and wild caught fish and shrimp...

If there was that much bait in the water would you mind throwing a net to catch you're own live shrimp for free...

I am adament on the stance that the rec gigger don't come close to being the problem because, at least in our very fertile Galveston bay with it's murky waters the conditions have to be really good to get a quick limit and I am telling you for real...YOU CANNOT STAB WHAT YOU CANNOT SEE!
For all you causual giggers out there ask your self how many nights of ice cream conditions that you have seen this summer and even on those rare that the stars where aligned just right for gigging, you prolly had to work, right?

Ok, so it was a off year for gigging with all these crazy winds but all I want to convey is the deep rooted fact that the majority of the non giggers think we slay a limit every night but nothing could be farther from the truth.
I really belive rod and reels take more flattys than the spears per season.

Hope to not had ruffled feathers, these are just my .02

Not that much different than a Karankawa indian hunting the shallows at night with a torch and a spear.

Agreed Bert, I had this arguement before on another forum.

Giggers are limited to low wind, clear water, very shallow water, and not deep mud (if you are on foot). Not to mention the sleep that most of us need eventually will limit the trips too.

Fisherman can take flounder wind or calm, in all water clarities, in all depths. Add the likely-jobless people you see out all day every weekday during the run, and I can easily see how hooks take more flatties.

Oh well, there's lots of fish and game to pursue in November, and I seem to do more gigging in the summer anyways.

I am very happy about the new regs but still unhappy about Flounder not being considered a game fish.

                        I too wouldn't mind going to a 5-5-5 limit

I never hardly catch or target them. Me thinks it's OK.

OK by me. I often target flounder when fishing, think it's a blast. I'll net over 5 when fishing sometimes. Most fishermen don't harvest 10 on a trip anyway. 5 in one day should be enough. But there are guys who don't fish that much who look forward to the annual fall run that won't be pleased. Who will go to the fall spots to only flounder fish for just 2 flounder ? I wonder if there will be reports of people keeping more than two.
