You may want to try the other store on I-10. It's worth the try. I took mine back in pieces and no questions were asked. You may have run into one of those guys in FTU that think they are pro fisherman. I have been helped by one. Anyway, if that doesn't work, do what Robalo suggested and write a letter to the big cheese. That always seems to work. Explain that you are an avid fisherman and clean you reels everyday and love to fish and usually shop at FTU exclusively, blah blah blah. It's worth trying to get your money's worth back. Good luck!!

I'm sorry about your rod Mike, but I'm like Robalo if he would have broke the other part in two pieces I would have lost it and went to jail cause I would have wore his arse out with the handle until the law showed up. Hope You get it taken care of.

Yep Fork FTU I went in there to buy a new 9wt and a new reel. I was ready to drop $900 but I was not all dressed up. So when i asked the guy about a reel that was $400 He said that reel was very expensive maybe I should look at some that are less expensive. I then said Fork you showed him a wad of cash and walked out.

A note for Mikey here... A guy named Kevin here in bayou vista had the EXACT same thing happen with his rod.. Broke on a dink redfish right above the handle!!!!!!!!!

So it must be a bad batch or something. Something to bring up when you talk to them again

I was there 2 wks ago to pick up a waterloo rod.... there was a salesman there that would not drop the fact i was purchasing a waterloo and not a green rod.. he hounded me for 20 minutes (warranty, low quality of waterloos, ppl saying waterloos break constantly, blanks green vs waterloo highly superior, etc)... i took a look at the green rod but was not interested.. at the end when i walked to the counter to pay he said.... "you are the only person i've ever talked to that picked another rod over the green rod.. i cant believe your buying that waterloo" in a smudge and pissed off kind of way... Fudge them..

I've never been to a store where they pushed their generic brand so hard to make a few extra bucks by smashing a competitors product they are carrying.

I lost all respect for FTU when my dad and I were in there in the fly dept. My dad was asking The fly FE about different Salt water flys. This guy goes on about how he only fishes in 12" or less and hes a guide. Well who gives a crap all you need to do is explain what the fly is trying to replicate. The times of the year it is used and presentation. My dad has been fly fishing since the 70's He is always looking to pick things up. Not listen to how awesome a fisherman this other dude thinks he is. Dam that dude was a DA.

Oh and by the way this was 8 months ago and I will not go back.

I hate the store on the Beltway... Love the store on I-10 at Campbell... Roy over there and Reuben are great guys I forget the other guy there off the top of my head but nice guys and will shoot straight, pleasure to do business with IMO.

Trained to sell their product and the sales guy will make some extra coin selling their brand.

On another note, I have had a reel lock up and replaced by Gander and a rod replaced at Basspro. In both cases----I frequent the same stores and sales staff. Mike at Gander in Richmond replaced my reel without a reciept.
