Dang should have thought about that sooner, if half the money would go to the cause that would have been a great idea.

By the way it is going to be a good tournament, we now have 44 folks signed up and the numbers are growing almost every miinute.........

Keep those entries rolling in folks.

Good morning to all. It is time - Saturday morning O-dark-early, and we're about to head down to the Dickinson boat ramp to help with the checkin. Those who pre-registered won't get to meet us until the BBQ this evening, but will probably be heading straight to the water for fishing.

Best of luck to everyone; I hope the weather cooperates, and that you all fill your stringers. We'll see you at the BBQ later today for some good Joe's BBQ, Scout-cooked dessert, some great prizes, and some fantastic silent auction items.

We've got a lot of folks out fishing, and the weather looks great.

If you aren't fishing, we still would like you to come to the BBQ and silent auction. Lots of very nice items up for auction. You can still use the form up to about 3:00 to pre-pay (using Paypal) or pay at the door. Only $10.00, catered by Joe's BBQ of Alvin, with cobbler by Scouts for dessert.

As of tonight, Abraham has $18867 toward his memorial project. He had budgeted $21000. The breakdown is as follows:

Fishing registration netted $1475. Dinner netted $730. The silent auction brought in $1502. Total from the tournament is $3705.

With a matching grant from Rotary, the project now has $18970. This pays for the stones, the engraving we need to do, and should cover most of the miscellaneous site preparation (concrete, re-bar, etc).

007 (Mike Boston) has very graciously volunteered his time and experience to help with the site prep, and he will be getting Abraham a list of redi-mix companies that might be willing to donate the concrete.

We are going to continue to work with local businesses to ensure we have margin in the budget; as Abraham noted, any excess funds will be donated to an established foundation that provides scholarships to children of servicemen and women who were killed in the line of duty. Also, if there is sufficient funds, Abraham would like to add a stone for the Merchant Marine, which is recognized as a veteran organization for their heroic sacrifices in WW2.

We are ready to order the stones. There is a 90-120 day lead time on the stones; sometime about 30 days before the stones are delivered, Abraham will schedule the site work to prepare the concrete pad for the memorial.

When we finish the memorial, Abraham will be having a dedication ceremony, at which he intends to honor all servicemen and women. Betsy and I are already talking about doing something special for all veterans who attend. We will definitely keep this community informed as to progress. Your support and generosity has touched us beyond words. I was truly touched by the way everyone has responded.

A very special thanks goes to Derek Herring, who took the idea and went way above and beyond the call. He could have given Abraham a check and called that good, but he decided that he would put his all into the project. Friends like that are rare and extremely special. Captain Wayne has been a blessing in his support. The Coastal Bend Weigh Team was super in their support. I could go on and on, but there's not enough time or space to thank everyone personally. Y'all are just fabulous people, and we are very grateful.
