How would you build this?

Got a question for those of you who are much more talented at engineering than I ever will be. I am building a small rope fence...basically just a few poles, drill a hole through the pole, and run the rope through the holes. I want to be able to remove one of the poles so that I can have a wider entrance for when I move the trailer. My idea has been to auger a hole and cement a "sleeve" in the hole that the pole would snuggly fit in to thus making it removable. I want the post to be about the size of 4x4.

What should I use for the sleeve? Or what should I do differently?

Your idea sounds fine. We do this sort of thing for removable traffic bollards.

Use either a sonotube, from home depot or a pvc pipe for the sleeve material.

You'll need to size the sleeve to leave about 1/2" space around the post while it's in the sleeve. Otherwise, as sand, dirt and silt drift into the annular space, the post will wedge against the sleeve and you'll never get it out easily. Use a couple wooden wedges to snug up the post while it's in the sleeve

what oleander said. I would add that if you are using wood posts, make sure you have some raised platform in the bottom of your sleeve so the post isnt sitting in water.
