yes. the burn brazzoria wildlife refuge and all the refuges this time of year to provide the geese with short tender grass shoots to eat... something they'll eat later in the season after they run through the rice feilds. I just hope it kills a million mosquitos!
Here is a photo I shot a while back from the island near San Luis looking back towards Chocolate. We had a lot of smoke in Houston one day last week so the wind must have switched on them.
I was wondering about the salt grass fires. While we were flying back to Houston form Baton Rouge last Sunday (had to go see the Tigers beat Ole Miss), we flew over the marshes between Lake Calcasieu and Houston. There were lots of fires in the marshes, and lots of smoke in the air. The fires were very far from anywhere reachable by anything other than boat, so it looked like they were deliberately set. We just could not figure out why. Now it makes sense.

Fished West yesterday. They have been doing several controlled burns around Chocolate and along the north shoreline of east. Yesterday they were burning a section right up next to the ICW about 6 miles west of Greens Cut. Couldn't fish one of the areas I like because of the thick smoke.
