New waders

I've always been a fan of the neoprene waders but bought a pair of the Magellan Mag 2 breathables a couple days ago. I know their nothing close to Simms but was wondering if someone could give their opinions pro or con on these vs. noeprenes. Eager to get out and try them soon. Thanks!

Breathable waders are much better than neoprene IMO. The inexpensive breathables have a deserved reputation of leaking. Nothing ruins a fishing trip faster than that. If you're on a trip down South, the damage is compounded.

You can get the Simms Freestones for $200.-$230. I have a pair and they're great waders. I separated the fabric inside the right leg on the inferior Blackstone's climbing in the boat over and over, and they replaced them with the Freestones. The guy that called from repair said they were replacing them, but they all wanted to know how the fabric failed only on the inside of the right leg! LOL

The deal is with Simms, if they leak or get a tear the'll fix 'em once free. In my experience with the Simms company, they'll fix leaks usually free every time, or charge like $20.
When you finally send them in years later and one of the repair guys calls you and says they're just worn out, they'll offer to replace the ones like you had, or in my case, offer you the G3's for $100. I have two pair, the Freestone and G3's.

Cabela's and Orvis also have good waders, so look on eBay or Nextag for waders.

New waders

They work great. Just wear a few more clothes. I normally get about a year out if the mags before they either develop a hole or I knock one in there. I'm in the water more than the average guy though. Last pair I bought were gulf coast about 8 months ago. So far so good but I haven't used em much yet -been too warm for waders till now.

I've had the Simms G3s for about 5 years. I use tem mostly in Colorado for trout fishing but I have used them a bunch the last 2 winters for wading the bay. I used to wear hodgeman neoprenes. The neoprenes are definitely warmer but they have zero brush resistance -important o me when bush whacking river banks. If I wear long johns under the Simms they are plenty warm and I don't get all hot and sweaty as the day goes on. I bought the Magellans for my sons and they haven't been able to tear them up yet and they can tear up anything.

I wear the Orvis breathable camo for duck hunting last pair lasted 5 years 2 years so far on this pair. Replaced free & upgraded me to the new style when I did have to replace them.

I got bought a pair from gulf coast waders online. I saw them at the fishing show only used them a couple of times but they are pretty nice.

you'll never go back to neoprene. i wear my breathables all winter and just layer up with fleece and thermals. in the spring i'll wear shorts.

Thanks for the input, fellows. My main concern was the warmth. Seems to be if I layer up with clothing on a cold day I should be fine.
