  • Caught a sawfish

Caught a sawfish last night. Didn't know it was a big deal. He has small, probably about 18 inches including everything. Went up to the county park and they had a number to call. Called it, no answer. He was small, looked like a skate, except for the nose protrusion. Pretty cool. No picture, as usual. I was just happy to get him back in the water. I don't know if this is a big deal, I'll update you if they call me back. - Sandy

It is a big deal to me Coach. Haven't seen one of those in a long, long time. The last one I can remember was about three feet long with at least a foot of saw. Btw I've caught more cigar fish this year than in a good while also.

It is a big deal. I think very few are caught each year along the entire cast, unless guys are just not telling! I have never seen one anywhere...

They love hanging out near the passes.

Here is a great article on sawfish in TPW magazine.

Wow! Once in a lifetime? I'm stupid. I elected to put it back in the water rather than walk the 45 feet to get a camera? Folks, heat up the brand. I am a dumb arse. No return call from the sawfish people. But I'll try again tonight. If I catch another, I will not care about the slurping sound. I will darn well get a pic.

I've caught 2 tarpon here, a pompano, and a bluefish. I've caught blacktip and bonnethead sharks. All these I thought were interesting, but not unheard of. This one seems different, but didn't at the time.

Whoa, according to the books, the sawfish is critically endangered, only a few left in the whole world. Tastes like poos man's scallops or smelly chicken, kinda.

Dude, that is an awesome catch!!!!! Could you imagine one of those tailing in the shallows? Sounds like they are so rare, no one works at the call center anymore.
