The guides are usually not the ones who win these tourneys!!!! There are 10 to 20 people on this site that are very very good at catching big Trout. And for the folks out in Rosenburg that have not caught fish in there entire lives, this tourney isn't for them!!! The star tourney is for them. This is a big trout tourney for the die hard grinders that can fish all day for one bite kinda tourney.

................I do believe all that "crap". There are numerous fishermen/fisherwomen that can win this type of tournament. Some times I feel the guides can be at a disadvantage since their job is to put customers on fish, not just big ones. A lot of us don't fish the summer tournaments for the reason it's hard to compete against bait fishermen, so we don't fish them and if this tournament is not for you, don't fish it. Maybe you can talk to Coe about getting another type of tournament. And for not having a boat, that's a poor excuse. A couple of winters ago the winning stringer of 18.5 lbs. was won by a fisherman that didn't have a boat. He just walked into west bay and whupped all of us.Originally posted by JbVenable

These winter trout tourneys arent for the average weekend fisherman -- the majority of the time the conditions SUCK and you grind all day long for maybe 2 or 3 good bites. Takes a special kind of crazy for somebody to do that all winter -- and there's probably 20 or so of us on here that do it religiously -- and look forward to it all year. While everone else is curled up in front of the TV or sitting in front of a heater in a deer blind we're freezing our arses off riding across the bay and then wading for hours in freezing water and mud after a big ol trout with a metabolism that's essentially in park-- that may or may not want to eat today. I say if you're willing to get out there and suffer through the weather and cold then you should be able to enter -- doesnt matter if you're a guide or not. Just like the Pimp said -- if you don't like tourneys that allow guides then find another one -- there's lots of em out there.Shut up and FISH!!
