  • Blockade Runners: A Change of Plans

Well, My dad called me this afternoon to let me know he just can't come. My 92 year old grandmother has been battling lung cancer for many months now and she has taken a turn for the worst. She has had a long and interesting life and she is ready to go. That doesn't make the whole situation easy for my dad however. He feels he needs to be there, just in case she goes sooner rather than later. As for me. she told me not to come until July 7th, when I'm supposed to come home. So I'm keeping with my plans, as per her wishes, but I'm sad about not having Dad out at the camp this weekend.

Here is the plan in case anyone wants to join in.

Thursday around 2pm or so, TMO and I will launch and make a run at the Ghost Camp. Fishbobber will arrive as soon as he can after work and give us a hand. We'll enjoy everything the camp has to offer and hopefully fill up both trucks with debris on Friday. We'll all leave Friday afternoon and I'll come home to take care of Fat Albert and get a shower before heading back to the camp that evening.

Saturday my old high school coach, who goes by Tres, his wife, and another couple will come out and help us keep working on tearing down the Ghost Camp. I know the tournament will be going on and I wish everyone the best of luck. I don't expect anyone to come out and help that day. If we get enough done, we'll pile in the car and come down to Sea Isle to check y'all out. But if you're fishing the area, come on by and take a break and enjoy yourselves at Blockade Runners. Give me a call to see where we are though. 979-215-1755

Coach, his wife, and friends will be staying at a motel in Surfside, and thus far, I'm the only one staying at the camp on Saturday night. They'll hang out until late at night I'm sure, then I'll taxi them to the ramp. That means we have 2 beds free, plus another mattress on the floor and an air mattress as well. Fireworks from the porch should be pretty awesome. Last year I sat on the corner of the porch and saw fireworks from Angleton down to Clute, Surfside, and all down the beach onto the West End. It's quite a display.

Sunday we'll be doing a little more work on the Ghost Camp, and hopefully also get the back porch finished. Anyone that can help, especially with the back porch, come on out.

Throughout the weekend, there should be lots of good music going on. Tres is an accomplished musician and song-writer. He won the Texas Music Song of the Year this year. His brother wrote Kenny Chesney's hit, "She's Got it All". So he'll be picking the guitar a lot if anyone wants to join.

Hope to see some of y'all out there this week or this weekend. Thanks, Sandy

Anything you want to bring Tom. I've depleted my stores pretty far in expectation of heading to N.O. soon.

                TMO meant Thursday, not tomorrow.

I like chicken, but not chicken period. That's what an egg is.
