Man, I could go on and on with Anegada fish stories.

We fish from the beach in front of our house many nights. I am trying to get some lights - but for now, we just fish under the moon and stars.

Nancy and I go out during the day and fly fish for ladyfish (skipjack) that we cut up and use for bait at night. We normally catch shark and snapper.

One night last year, Alex (story above) and his girlfriend came over to fish with us. We got everything set up, put our rods in their holders stuck down in the sand, and sat back and started sipping rum.

Something hit Nancy's and took off, but she lost it. I went to the bait bucket to get her a new bait when something hit my rod. I was only a couple of feet away but, before I could get a hand on it, the rod holder bent low enough for the rod to fly out of it.

We were about 20 feet from the edge of the water. The rig flew across the sand toward the water like a rocket. I ran after it, but could not quite catch up with it as it went into the sea.

When it hit the sea, it slowed down a bit. The water is less than knee deep for a few yards out, so I continued the chase. I had a headlamp on, so I could clearly see the rig on the bottom as it slid on out. Still, though, I could not catch it.

I came back out of the sea, minus a nice surf rod with a Shimano Spheros 14000 reel. All we could do was laugh about it and say "Wow! That was AWESOME!" Yeah - we had been in the rum. I had left the drag set tight on the reel from previously landing a shark.

The next morning, I got my mask and fins and went out into the sea. I swam out to the reef on the upcurrent side (a couple hundred yards from the edge of the water), then started drifting downcurrent. It was not long before I spotted monofilament in the reef.

I followed the line, which turned from the reef toward the inshore side, and found my rod and reel intact on the bottom in about 8 feet of water. Happily, I retrieved it, swam ashore, and proudly showed it to Nancy.

I tore the reel down, cleaned the sand from it, greased it up, and we are still fishing with it today.

So - the next night - we are down on the beach fishing again. I get the big hit and...

Here is the 50 pound snapper that I pulled from the front yard.

Caz, 007 and I were at the camp one Sunday morning and we eaded out in mikes boat. We were fishing arties, gulf nuclear chicken when all of a sudden 007 has a fish on. After a few minutes earlier, we were going to swing by the camp and get the net inase we needed it. Well.... We skipped that stop.

Caz ended up grabbing the fish out of the water, that was pretty cool since it was the only Redfish we got that trip.
