  • to speed or not to speed

I have a question. Let me set up the scenario...You are fishing from a boat, out of the channal about 10 to 20 yards. The channel is about 50 to 75 yards wide, all other boats are giving you room, in other words they are as far away from you as possibe, between 50 and 80 yards.
you want them to run by at speed, or would you want them to slow to a "no wake speed" ?

    just a question....

They are crazy if they slow down to a " no wake speed " 90 % will look at you and blow past a potlicker.

With a reasonable distance between us, I would just as soon they pass me on plane. People who slow down are great and think about others. But I prefer to have them go ahead and go, so I can get back to my fishing! Those who must pass have that right and as long as they give me some decent clearance I dont mind!

Depends on location... Of course it goes back to " you fish in a highly traveled passway that's your choice and you have to accept it" but in reality... If a boat is at speed, normally jacked up and trimmed properly, they will leave less wake than moving through slow and " being nice" due to water drag displacement at such a slow speed..that was a great post... People think about this all the time... Kinda goes back to wakes made in a neighborhood canal... A boat idling makes a push of water bigger than one thinks...
          Don't follow my boat......I don't catch fish......

I would come as close as possible and reach into their cooler and grab a beer and sammie. If it was Clark, I'd leave a "Free Entry Ticket" to Heartbreakers and a note "Courtesy of Skye".

real answer: wake the helll outta em and wave with only one finger and try to run over their red/white bobber.

I slowed for 2 yakers this past Sunday morning, but only because the water was like glass. If it had been choppy, I probably wouldn't have slowed at all.

I do watch for yakkers-I will slow down for them. Personally, if Paul had a speedo on, I'd floor it and hope that my battery broke free and its acid wound up in my eyes. Maybe that's where the term "Blind Casting" came from?

As a kayaker, I'd prefer you go by on plane. Especially if'n you're wearing a speedo.

the fishing was good,it was the catching that was bad.

I was thinking about this same thing the other day. I have the same perspective as the yakkers. I'd rather you fly on past up on plane.

I appreciate the motives of the kind folks who slow down, but if you slow down only to where your rear end is hunkered down in the water, wallowing in between idle and plane, then you actually throw a bigger wake.

Hmmmm.... not so sure this is good info to give out. Now all the a$$holes who want to mess with us little boats will know what to do - and it'll be under the guise of "just being nice.

Now, with me being in Chocolate, it really don't matter what you do, because I ain't catchin no fish anyway.
