has anyone ever painted their boat? im not talking gelcoat and all that high dollar stuff. I just need to make her last another couple of years until I can finally get the new one. Where or who can I contact to get the supplies I will need to prep and spray my boat.

If all you need is a couple years... why not just polish it out?

You may look at bottom paint or an epoxy paint ...west marine might be the place to go start talking and find out more.

I tried that but does not last. Any suggestions on a real good abrasive compound? I have tried everyting at Academy and Bass Pro and it still wont get the finish to shine. Its a red and the dullness/oxidation is pretty bad.

Buff Magic from Shurhold. I am using this on my 82 Sea Ray and it is the best I have used.

I have heard of it. Is there a place local that carries it?

I just ordered on-line and had it a couple of days later. Use a wool pad on low speed ( I bought the buffer they sell and it was worth the money).

A good buffer works most cases....be careful when doing it..too fast and you will screw up any finish. you always compound slow and polish fast

Me and my kids painted our 18 foot Kenner last year. I paid around 50 dollars for a gallon of marine paint from a little shop in Kemah (You can also order it online http://boats.wholesalemarine.com/ind.../_/N-14n/Ne-rs). We sanded it down a few times and rolled three coats of paint on it. We had a blast and the paint is still on, outside of a few scratches from the dock paint is holding up good.
