  • West Bay Slam Tournament Results

I want to thank everyone who came out to the weigh-in. We raised a good sum of money for the Fisher House.
We had our largest turnout of the year! 107 anglers in 40 teams that participated in this event, along with 6 additional anglers in the youth division.

In big news, Elizabeth Rodriguez, in our Youth Division, caught a 1.03 LB Piggy that was 13 1/8" long. A quick glance at the Overall Texas Saltwater Records had the current leader for Rod & Reel at 1.04 LB. That's 1/100th of a pound away from tying the current record holder set back in 1998. After further investigation she qualifies for the Junior Texas Saltwater Record. This will be a pending new record! Congratulations to Elizabeth!

In the Youth Division we had 6 anglers participate, they all weighed in some nice catches.

1st Place: Chase Poole - Speckled Trout 3.15 LBS
2nd Place: Garret Leath - Speckled Trout 2.50 LBS
3rd Place: Sophia Dykes - Flounder 1.70 LBS
4th Place: Olivia Dykes - Speckled Trout 1.49 LBS
5th Place: Elizabeth Rodriguez - Piggy 1.03 LBS - PENDING YOUTH SALTWATER RECORD - TEXAS
6th Place: Jason Oquendo - Croaker 0.63 LBS

We had 40 teams in the main field.

    We had 18 teams weigh-in:

    1st Place: Los Conquistadores - 25.68 LBS
2nd Place: In It To Win It - 21.60 LBS
    3rd Place: Chunda Bucket - 17.20 LBS
    4th Place: Pier Pressure - 16.60 LBS
    5th Place: Solid Platinum - 16.53 LBS
    6th Place: Superfishall - 15.96 LBS
    7th Place: Mixed-Up - 15.80 LBS
    8th Place: Cubbage / Sinclair - 15.13 LBS
9th Place: Sofa King Awesome - 15.06 LBS
    10th Place: Reel Killers - 14.90 LBS
    11th Place: Saltwater Smokers - 14.68 LBS
    12th Place: BAAD Marine - 14.37 LBS
    13th Place: 4 Locos - 14.29 LBS
    14th Place: Drunks & Dogs - 12.37 LBS
    15th Place: Son of a Pinch - 8.03 LBS
    16th Place: Ocean Kayak - 7.52 LBS
17th Place: Must Be Nice - 6.60 LBS
    18th Place: Hook'em & Cook'em - 4.45 LBS

Larry Siarski took the side pot (slot redfish w/ most spots) with a total of 6 spots.

One angler had a redfish with over 30 spots, however he was not entered in the side pot.

Our next tournament is our West Bay Redfish Showdown, October 27, 2012.

Thanks for checking into the records for us Coe! She was very excited and I had a great time baiting hooks for her yesterday. The reds didn't show up, but she wore herself out on Mangroves, Croakers, and Piggys. She sure broke in her new rod that we built together earlier this year.

Congrats to all the winners and you picked a great organization to contribute to Coe! Well Done FWE...

did anyone see the trout that the guys in first place had? i had just weighed in & was taking my fish back to the ice chest & walked past the guy in the parking lot... all his fish were in a 5 gal bucket & the main fish that caught my eye was a trouts tail sticking up taller than the other fish. the trout was 29" & a little over 7lbs. he said he caught it on a gold spoon in a foot of water fishing for redfish...beautiful looking fish.

                Trout Picture

We had a great day on the water. Didn't catch a fish until around 10 but then caught 3 solid trout from 22-24.5. We decided we needed to spend the rest of the day trying to grind out some reds. We caught one 26 after about an hour and we kept wading that shoreline trying to catch another. I went in shallow and casted in some thick grass with a gold spoon. Right when my lure landed that fish smacked it. I thought it was a red the entire time until it got close. Fish was caught about 10 yards from shore in a foot of water. After that we found a nice school of reds but nothing over 23 inches. Click image for larger version
