  • Planing problem

Need a little help. I am having trouble getting plane on my 18' CC Cajun. I have a 92 V4 115 Johnson pushing it. Motor is running great but I feel that it takes too long to plane out. I have tried trimming it every which way but loose but still takes 10 to 15 seconds to reach plane. A buddy said that I need to have my prop looked at. 2 questions: Does anyone know what pitch i should be at? and where or how do i find the pitch on my prop?

    Call Baumann Propellers in Houston.

    They'll fix you up.

An add on anti-cav plate like a Shallowblaster can help too. My question is, has it always been this way, or is it a new issue?

............I had the same question. Some of those older cajuns were known to get water in the hull. Maybe you have some extra weight you are unaware of.

Is it a new condition? What are your max rpms? Your pitch should be set to allow the engine to reach it's max RPM. When in doubt, call the prop people. They can do it much quicker then us armchair mechanics.....

Pieman your pitch should be stamped on the prop! & If you need to know the correct pitch for that motor you need to call a Johnson Dealer. If you did not buy the boat New someone could have put a Aftermarket prop on there, Probably trying to get more speed out of the boat.

Contact Baumanns! experts, had problems with my larger prop and didnt want to loose top end speed , Baumanns vented the prop, and now I have better take-off lift with less cavitation, its not the best mind you, but I still have a good top speed!little things make a big differance sometimes!!

That is a good point. What is a good way to tell? Do i have to drill a hole somewhere?

Like Coachlaw said, Has this always been a problem? Is your boat sitting lower in the water than it use to? It could be a prop problem, but I would think it would have always given you trouble unless you have recently changed it.
