I broke down and put some Suffix braid on my rods and that stuff is so noisy that I'm thinking of going back to my ole Big Game. It's not too bad casting and working your bait but when you get a fish on it makes one heck of a squealing noise. Do all braid do this? If not what brands to y'all recommend?

I use Suffix and Power Pro and the suffix seems to be noisier. I have all my reels switched over to Power Pro now and will probably stick with it.sigpic

Green PP 30lb(8lb diam). I use 20lb flouro leader tied with a blood knot to the braid.
You really have to get used to just pulling to set the hook. I jerked a few lips off when I first switched. You also need to have the drag set lightly so that you don't get the braid digging into itself. I use a mono backer to make it more solid underneath, plus the cost of mono for the backer is much cheaper than the braid on the entire spool.sigpic

Thanks for the added info, but that seems like too many knots for me. The way I see it the more knots the more likely a failure at the wrong time. Yesterday I was just tieing striaght to the lure and it didn't seem to bother the fish, though most of them were dinks. If that what it takes I'm just going to respool with Big Game and be happy.Originally posted by imhammer View PostGreen PP 30lb(8lb diam). Once you get used to it you won't go back. The feel is unparalelled and the strength with the small diameter is awesome. Stay with it for a while and you will be hooked, especially when the bite is really light. You will be able to feel everything.Originally posted by bountyhunter View PostThanks for the added info, but that seems like too many knots for me. Make sure you spool it really tight and you won't have as many problems with the braid digging in. I know lots of guys that tie straight to the lure, but I don't mind tying the knots and it is easier to break off the Flouro when you get hung up. I have had to straighten hooks to get the braid loose!sigpic

I'VE been trying all different kinds on lines here lately and still go back to Big Game. With braid its too noisy and when it backlashes(I spend a good part of the day in this mode) it really digs deep. With flourocarbon It is a little easier to dig out of a backlash but I tend to backlash it more often. So I am stickin with big game. @$7.00 for 700 yards it doesnt hurt as much to replace.

Well, my son and I went out in the yaks this morning and I will say you can sure feel those flounder hit. Now I got to get use to giving them a couple of seconds before setting the hook, as I lost two nice ones this morning. I did get the biggest one in though. I'll post full report in the Yak section later. Anyway I'll give the braid a couple more trips before trashing it.
