Towing Insurance cost about $135 with Tow Boat USA. Would have saved my buddy $750
Waiting a few hours would have also saved him $750.
I have thought about the towing insurance a bit myself. About $11 a month really is not that much - a fraction of the rest of the cost of being on the water.
The thing is - there has never actually been an instance where I would have used it. Either I was able to get myself unstuck, could wait for higher water, or someone else passing by was able to give me a hand.
So - the question I have is: who actually has ever been in a situation where they had to use a commercial tow to get out?

ME!!! It's well worth the money!! Like I said....the coverage follows you no matter what or who's boat that you are on.
About 8 miles off-shore from SLP last summer, I lost the lower unit. Called Tow-Boat US in Freeport (Tempest Marine). First thing they asked was if I had the 'unlimited' towing package. fortunately, I said yes.....and the caverlry was on the way. (Instant pay day for those guys.)
Anyway, it was a long tow at 6 knots to Freeport. Wouldn't tow me into SLP-KOA camp due to them having a deep, twin diesel 32 footer. Well worth the $115 a year for me though. Total tow bill was $990.
I saw the boat I think-looked like they missed the little bend before the barge buoys and went about 100-200 yards into west bay on the flats. The same area has rebar sticking up. If it was the same boat (about a 26' cuddy) whoever came to get them had a 26 or bigger Contender and they didn't have a clue as to what to do or where to go-they cut across the spoil and I had to reel in my line or they would have cut it-that Contender had GlobalTech something shrink wrap. They went into the bay, turned around after about 30 minutes and then came back into ICW. The only way they were gonna get that boat off the flat was towing from ICW. Not sure if they ever did-was there Saturday about noon.
"Hey Hillary, regarding the Benghazi Attack on 9/11-we'll just blame it on that movie, not my total lack of security. By the way, what's so significant about 9/11 anyway-was that a date my buddy Bill Ayers of the Weather Underground blew up a government building?" asked Obama to Hillary. BEAUTIFY AMERICA, RUN OVER A LIBERAL, THEN BACK UP AND SEE IF HE'S DEAD.
