  • Night Fishing the Underwater Lights

Wednesday night my neighbor saw two guys in a 14' jonboat with a 9.9 motor pull up to my lights-these guys were not normal fishermen in that they left the motor running while fishing the lights and pulled right up to the light-that's one reason my neighbor watched them. They hooked my light and instead of cutting their line, they pulled and deep set their hook into the light's cord and shorted out my light. These two geniuses have cost me $229 for a new light. Because they are uncaring and likely dense, I regrettably will unplug my lights when I am not there so I am not faced with further costs to replace the lights.

If you fish someone's underwater lights, please cut your line if you wrap or hook the cord or light; otherwise you likely will ruin someone's underwater light.

Please be courteous of other folks' property-these two morons have hurt others that respected my property. Sorry for this post, but I felt it best to let folks know that you should cut your line or you'll ruin someone's light if you hook the light or cord. Thanks and good fishing.

Same thing happened to us...we pulled the lights in to fix them and they were riddled with punctures from hooks being pulled out. Finally shorted out both lights...haven't replace them for that reason

You all need to look at a different method of lighting your dock area. The reason why they need to be left on is to prevent algae and barnicles to grow on them...

There is another option that is safe for you and your family... I'm going to buy this for my Dad for Father's Day. He's always wanted the underwater lights too.

Dock Lights, LED Dock Light, Dock Light, White Dock Lights, Blue Dock Lights, Green Dock Lights, Underwater Dock Lights, Above water Dock Lights, Pier Lights, Pier Pole lights, AlumiGlo LED Dock Lights, LED Flood Light, LED Spot Light, Pier Lights

This is the company I bought my Flounder Lights from fast shipping etc.

I'd suggest the GFCI Plug of course and just build you a base and toss it out there... Unplug & Remove when your done fishing...

That sux!!!! Also a good idea to run idle in the middle of the canal on extremely low tides so the prop don't hit the lights. I hit mine in Bayou Vista years ago, I forgot about it and nail it with my prop .

Mine had been there for over 6 years and no problem until these two idiots. I have hooked them myself, I just cut my line and retied. It's when they deep set to save a $.03 hook that is wrong. I have GFCI plugs, so almost regrettably they didn't get shocked. I also have my lights at about 5' deep in 6.5 water depth. I have had to reset the lights about 3-4 times per year because someone hooks them and moves them but no one has ever hooked through the cord before. I also clean them at least 3 times a year to remove mud, algae and barnacles.

I just hate having to unplug the lights each weekend because some inconsiderate person wanted their 3 cent hook back and was too lazy to cut and re-tie. It only makes the night fishermen suffer since 3 fewer lights will be on for them to fish. Sorry.

Why don't you just add a Timer Switch then and set it however you like? Are you going to replace the lights?

Yep-gonna replace them. I just need new light and cord which should be about $80 from the underwater green light guy in the Islander. Never thought aboiut a timer-not a bad idea, but I think I'll just unplug when I leave. Right now only 1 light is working-I think I'll just buy 1 new whole deal and 1 light and cord. Other one quit when I fell outta the boat 3 or 4 weeks ago at 2 am-yes I was dang drunk and re-setting position of light at 2 am aint the smartest thing I've ever done.

Thanks for the timer idea! I may do that with one of them and see how it works out.

That sucks, hate to hear that a couple of idiots ruin it for others.

I guess if i owned a house down there on the water i'd probably turn mine off for the same reason when i wasn't there.

                    Hey Jerry,
Sorry to hear that. I run into that problem too with the two houses acros from me being rentals but msot of them are considerate enough to cut their lines. Some of them have stretched my light out as afarrr as it would go in the canal before cutting but none of them ever got a hookset on the line. Think of it this way. You had it 6 years, no need in changing habits when it may be another 6 years before it happens again. If you turn it off you will get the growth on it so it's just a gamble. Ike took my first light and the second was fine but the bulb just went in it. I need to get another whole unit and seperate light with cord too. Was thinking of making the cord and light but when I went to Home depot they were out of the socket. I've used my big 300watt overhead light the last few weeks and heyyy... outfished the underwater lights in the canal... lit up the neighborhood tooo!!! hahaha

I'll get my underwaters back on soon. Good luck with yours too.

                    Joe

Dumbarses seem to be crawling out of the woodwork. Sorry to hear about your lights, some folks just don't have any respect for other peoples stuff.

Once you get them fixed I can come down with my bow and guard them for you. Guys tend to run even faster when you are shooting arrows at them. BTW part of my price is fishing.....

In my opinion the overhead lights have always outfished the underwater lights. After running over my under water light I just stuck with the overhead. Sux for the folks across the canal though LOL. Fish don't spook as easy with the overheads and will stick around alot longer.
