Plumber Needed!

Had a pipe break or is leaking between the 2nd & 3rd floor. Cut a hole in the ceiling in the bathroom on the 2nd floor and just my luck the water is dripping down the pipe from the 3rd floor somewhere.

Anyone a plumber?

Unfortunately, you gotta keep ripping out sheetrock until you get to the source. Fix should be easy after that.

what does that pipe go to. looks like it is wet to the left over by the floor joist also.

It runs up to the 3rd floor somewhere I can't tell where exactly but I'm guessing since I don't see a bend & the pipe runs straight up that it feeds the 3rd floor laundry room.

The looks of that plywood and 2x it's leaking pretty bad or for a long time slowly. That larger pipe should be a vent and the smaller a supply. That's the one to trace out to the leak. Better fix it pretty quick before you have to replace more than sheetrock. Looks like plywood and structure support damage. Hard to tell from photo.

I have not noticed ANY other spots that are leaking or showing signs of sheet rock damage because of water. Also, I turned off the water last night and it stopped leaking. Just turned it back on and after 5 minutes I can hear the water hitting my makeshift tin foil which allows the water to drip down to the sink below and not sit on the sheet rock.

If I have any luck at all, the water is hopefully dripping down the pipe from a fitting/ 90 bend above on the 3rd floor.

It may be your hose bib (valve) Coe. If so that's your easy fix to change out. Sometimes the packing/ o-ring gets bad and leaks by.Hard to feature pvc pipe leaking if primered and glued up right unless the pipe froze and split somewhere. Haven't had any freeze this year so that shouldn't be the case.

You say (and I see) that there is one line (cold only) going to the third floor laundry, which means there is a hot water heater up there?
If so, you go where the hot water heater is (maybe in the attic) and check those connections.

Also check the laundry connections, especially below the duplex valve outlet in the wall behind the washing machine.
